Doug Barfield was forced on Auburn with the forced retirement of Shug.
The search committee was put together. Most of Auburn wanted Vince Dooley. But Vince was a SEC Georgia rat and a new vision was wanted.
One morning the recruiter that put together the 1957 National Championship Team walked into the Breakfast room and asked “Who do you think should the next coach?”
I know you recruited Vince. I know there are loyalties. Other than Walker what has Vince done?
Dye won at East Carolina and Wyoming. He can win anywhere and Legion Field will become a soccer field. Dye is the best choice.
The contracts are with his agent now. Dye is the next Head Coach. You know nothing until the official announcement is made.
Freeze is stuck on stupid. There needs a driven focus on recruiting offensive linemen. Not recruiting NIL bench sitters.

This is the first year Freeze has had close to the talent of our conference opponents. So this is the year I will judge him by his record.
So far he has lost two close, road games to top ten teams. I admit those games were lost in frustrating fashion, but outside of Bama or UGA I don’t see another team doing better in those two games.
I’m willing to see how the rest of the season plays out.

This point is overblown. I'd say he's had comparable talent to all but the top third of the conference.
Hugh was hired for his abilities to build an offense, but the only reason we've been in any of these games is entirely our defense. Our offense, if anything, is more hapless than it was last season. The lack of preparation continues. The inability to adapt to what the defense is doing continues. The plague of penalties continues, bad O-line play continues, bad special teams continues, overpriced QB talent that can't deliver a consistent forward pass continues.
At this point, I expect another 6-6 sort of season which will probably be enough to fire a few scapegoat assistants and keep the guy around another year - barring a health-related resignation. But I think we can stop pretending this guy is going to suddenly figure it out. Considering our fumbling saga with Kiffen last time around, I might be convinced Freeze was the most attractive offer to our boosters on the table, but I'll never buy that he was a smart, well thought out hire.
