During the time of year that 100 miler takes place you’re probably looking at average high in the mid 70s, lows in the low 50s. Likely humid but not debilitating due to the lower temperatures.

The summer sucks but my friends in Edmonton, Canada were sweating their balls off this summer so I don't think anywhere is safe. Fall and Spring are great, and Fall is spectacular in the Ozarks. Lots of outdoor activities you can do if you like the outdoors. Hell, you can spend a week or so in NW Arkansas just seeing where the bike trails take you.

Everything is dead in winter but being from Ohio I am guessing you are kinda used to that.

Basically you are talking about the Pea Ridge area.

Arkansas doesn't have a lot of major battles in the Civil War because once the North forced the road open through the Ozarks (much of Northern Arkansas leaned strong unionist) it is wide open with few areas to build a defense.

Yes, even back then, NW Arkansas, which was barely settled, was the key to Arkansas. Take that, secure the roads to the plains, and Arkansas was ripe for the picking.

Gorgeous. Stay away from the folks from Oklahoma. It is wild in our parks. Which is fantastic. Deer, rabbits, and so on are common sights here.

Granted, don't y'all have a wild life preserve in the Cincinnati area based around your zoo there? We do have a big cat preserve here but I don't think it matches what you guys have.

You live, or are from, Ohio. Unless we are talking mountains or the beach you're pretty well loaded up. I'd say come to NW Arkansas, mountains and developed. Yes, the Appalachian mountains are much closer but Jesus that area is depressing as hell.

I mean, unless you love the beach life Ohio is hard to suggest. A short trip across the border and you have French Canada. A few hours to the East you have the East Coast. To your South Kentucky.

I hate the Buckeyes, but Ohio is one of the few states I would willingly live in if I had my druthers.

We also have the Columbus Zoo and the Wilds Safari Park about 2 hours away.

I like Cedar Point; I usually go every July 4th.

West Virginia has some beautiful mountains, but you are right about it being depressing, at least in parts of it. We have visited Snowshoe a few times. I don't ski, but I enjoy the resort.

Daytime expectations:

It can reasonably be anywhere from 65 on a cold October morning, to 90 on a warm October afternoon, without anyone blinking an eye at either or really remarking on the weather being unusual.

The overall outlook for rain and the like is supposed to be lower than usual, so odds are fair you'll be here when it is dry. The seasonal 'leaf' forecast suggests you'll be hitting areas where fall is just getting underway, in terms of leaf cover. It is a popular season for long lazy drives, given the coverage in the northern parts of the state, so if you find yourself in need of a scenic experience that isn't as prevalent in the Deeper South, you can always wander up into the wilds, and get a bit of autumn in before heading home.
