I think I saw somewhere where he is getting paid a salary for whatever his new role is but what happened to his football contract ? Is Alabama still paying it as well ?

I don't think so, once he retired, they were no longer obligated to pay him what he was while coaching. He makes $500,000 per year to serve as some form of an advisor/ambassador. But I do not believe he is still getting paid under his coaching contract.

I know all the things. Serious responses tho, would he come back to stabilize the program and then actually go thru a process of finding a replacement. Instead of the mic drop and frantic search for a coach.

I highly doubt it, he's got a very, very lucrative and sweet gig with ESPN's gameday and the $500,000 he's getting from Alabama is closer to mailbox money than earned money. I'd be shocked if he gave all of that up to get back into the grind.

I don't know if he would coach again or not, seems like he got out right on time. I was asking more about the money part of it. It would be bad to pay 2 head coaching salaries without either one of them doing the job.

This would be bad for everyone involved IMO. Youd have a less than prime Saban potentially having a bad year after retiring on top...and youd then go back to the next coach AGAIN having to follow Saban.

Exactly. I had a feeling Saban got out at the right time because of how dangerously close he came to losing 5 games in 2023. That was his best coaching job and he went out on top. It's easy to say he wouldn't have lost 4 games last year but at his age, keeping that dam from bursting was only going to get harder with each passing season. the cracks were spreading, and there's simply too much rot in the program now for anyone to weed out quickly.

The next hire doesn't need to be rushed. Forget panicking about player transfers or recruits bolting. Every candidate should be thoroughly vetted. If a coach comes across as a beta in the interview process, that's an automatic hard pass. If former players gripe about how brutal practices were, automatic green light.

Bama doesn't need a Buddy in a polo shirt smiling for photo ops. It needs a warlord who can drag the program back to the standard, no matter how many players cry or transfer along the way.
