To help with your taxes, please donate whatever the buyout cost is to the University of Alabama…thanks!

I told my wife if we hit Powerball tonight, the first $60 million is earmarked for the Alabama athletic department to buy out a contract. My only condition is I get to come fire Wommack myself.

I'd probably get a private banker and put the money up for a year. Act like nothing changed and avoid blowing the money on buying new toys and vacation spots.
However that is my strategy if I ever had a several million dollar windfall because often those are not enough to retire on but enough to set you up for a comfortable retirement if you just don't go blowing it on toys. The immediate cash out amount for 1.4b is probably still going to be ~750m. It will get taxed HEAVILY but it is enough money that you could probably stop working a day job if the money is well managed.

The lump sum on that is approximately 640 million. After taxes depending on your state around 300 to 400 million. Your definitely able to stop working.
However, with that large amount, I'm taking the annuity payout. I live in Mississippi, so the annuity payout would start at about 12 million the first year and then increase about a million a year for the next 30 and that's after taxes. In the end I'm taking home 800 million instead of 400.

If the annuity can be transferred to next of kin/beneficiary then that is definitely something to consider.

It does from what research I've seen. You're hitting 300 million after 16 or so years so if you're under 50 the annuity is the better bet anyway.

Yeah. I don't know what the one guy was talking about, but if I have 300-400mm, I'm not worrying about money ever again.
And I am going out immediately and getting a Porsche.

Yeah I hope I can stop working my day job if I win 1.4 billion. Well it’s only half that if I cash out so I don’t know I might have to keep working my job everyday if I only have $700 million.
