Why is it that Brailsford and Bernard are our best players on offense still?

Is it that Saban's guys are mentally gone? I honestly think DeBoer could win with his guys. Something is not clicking with the old roster and him.
Without Bernard we score 0 points

Ryan gets more attention. Bernard is a 1 on 1 mismatch

Bernard isn’t afraid of contact either!

I've wondered this too. Perhaps the type of motivator/coaching style this staff has requires a different type of personality and as the roster turns over with guys this staff picked then the performance will improve.
Saban wanted a team of leaders - the 2009 and 2020 teams probably most typified this - but he'd make it work with a team that had to be driven by him more often than not.
DeBoer probably needs young men who can be professional in their approach intrinsically. I don't think that is a good strategy for consistent performance with 18-22yo men which is probably why the Saban approach produced 7 national titles and 12 conference titles in his career.

Yep. This is it. DeBoer is more an NFL coach.

Yeah, that’s not gonna happen unless there’s is a huge turnaround here

I know he won't have the time at this pace. I think he needs to trot out Keelon and say frick it lets go.

How many folks left the year before out of the portal? How many graduated before KDB took over? How many graduated last year?
There wasn't a ton of Saban players left, to be honest.

Full roster? Not much. Starters? I think it is around half on each side of the ball without looking.

I noticed in the game several times they would run Williams in the slot but next to Bernard as a decoy it seemed. Williams would pull the double and Bernard the pass.
Benard is clutch

While the rankings remained high, Saban’s last few classes were highly overrated and full of junk.

Keelon ain’t ready

Honestly, Bama stopped developing players in 2020.
Significant amount of high draft pics were developed else where (I.e Gibbs/Jameson)

I dont think people on this board are ready for this answer. "The Standard" hasnt been there for a while. It's become a saying, but none of the teams post 2020 have embodied that, and it will never happen again. The teams during the height of the dynasty earned it everyday and made your arse quit on Saturday, and the teams since 2020 have played like they were given it instead of earning it.

Seemed like most of our defense went pro or transferred. The only "big" losses on offense was Burton, Bond and... was it a TE (forget his name)?
I'm not defending DeBoer in the slightest here but people forget Saban's last team was also one play away from losing to three garbage teams in his last season. He was basically the duct tape holding together a dam full of cracks and now that he's gone, it's blown wide open.
