"I love what I see...I'm going to have fun breaking down this year all year...We are going to have fun around here this year...I got tired of watching Georgia football film last year...I don't think that this will be the case this year...I am stoked to break down this film study."

To his credit Brooks said that Gaston was a sure-fire first round pick coming out of high school, and the only two other players he'd ever said that before were Broderick Jones and Amarius Mims. His Juan Gaston mancrush is now even higher. Brooks also loved some of the new running games and concepts that he saw from Saturday.

I believe in Brooks. It was reassuring to watch this film study.

Gaston destroyed a safety to start the game but should have gone headhunting after. Dude can move.

He points out a lot of tips and room for improvement on the o-line, probably because that’s his old position, but some of the basic technical stuff and IQ stuff he points out makes me wonder if they’re being coached up well by their position coach(es). I’m not referring to Gaston because he is raw and still a youngun. And I’m not just referring to this week one show of this season, either. It seems rather constant.

My hope is that this guy will make our O line look and feel different this year.

He was the O line coach for the Jaguars for the previous 4 years. Obviously he's not gods gift to offensive line coaches or else he would've been retained by the new Jacksonville coach, but you can't fake your way into becoming the main O line coach for an NFL team.

Before joining the Jaguars’ coaching staff in 2022, Rauscher held various positions with the Denver Broncos, the Washington Commanders, and the Minnesota Vikings. During the regular season, Jacksonville’s offensive line allowed 27 sacks and led the league in games without a sack with six.

Phil Rauscher has made the most of the Jaguars’ offensive line

Trevor Lawrence has made a big leap in his second year, and the Jaguars’ offensive line deserves praise for giving him optimal protection throughout most of the season. Phil Rauscher also deserves credit for being able to get the most out of his unit.

Right tackle Jawaan Taylor struggled with inconsistency last year but has hit his stride under Rauscher. Similarly, rookie center Luke Fortner was the starter from Day 1 and got progressively better as the season progressed.

Then, there’s sophomore Walker Little who started the season on the bench but has filled in nicely for left tackle Cam Robinson, who is out for the year with a knee injury. Pederson met with the local media Monday and talked about Rauscher’s positive impact on the team.

“I can’t really say enough great things about Phil”, Pederson said. “Prior to me hiring him, I didn’t know much about him. I talked to some people around the league. I didn’t have any personal experience with him but came highly recommended and I knew from the moment met him in the building that he and I were gonna have a great connection. Not only personally in the office but also on the football field as well”.

“The way he coaches these guys. He’s hard on them, he’s demanding on them, but he’s fair and honest and he really gets the most out of them, and on top of that, he’s a great schemer, puts great run plans together, and really does a nice job even in game making adjustments for us when we need them. Again, can’t say enough good things about him”, Pederson.

Pederson has played a huge role in the turnaround the Jaguars have undergone since the end of the 2021 season. His decision to hire Rauscher to coach the offensive line is one of the biggest reasons are set to face the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round of the playoffs.

Amazed someone hasn't given Brooks a shot at coaching.

He's trying really hard in his videos to get a job. It used to be subtle, it's not subtle anymore.

He’s honest about it. He said (paraphrasing) I’d love to coach but I’m not about to take some low paying off field role at a D2 school. If the right opportunity comes along I’ll strongly consider it, but if it doesn’t I’m more than happy doing this.

That's an interesting statement as he played two seasons for a really bad D2 team. I had to Google him to find that info.

Knowing the game is a big part of coaching, but there is a LOT more that goes into it. He could well be a great coach, but his base of knowledge does not make that a lock.

Ironically, you kinda need to know this stuff to play football. So, there are a lot of dudes out there who could break film down like this. He has a pretty good charisma that helps for his audience, though I continue to feel that he gets a little too trying to sound like a cool high school kid vibe sometimes…. Though he has toned it down a tad.

Watched it, and I had to remind myself Brooks isn't exactly color blind where UGA is concerned. We still had what, 3 back to back punts in the 2nd quarter vs. Marshall. 6 punts feels like a lot for Marshall.

Looking at the landscape nationally, I almost wonder if we see a return of “joyless murderball” this season. It’s early, but I don’t see the kind of offensive firepower among the contenders that we’ve come to expect.

Plays right into Kirby’s hands imo.
