Gritty road win that had to happen …. but lots to work on. How would you grade our performance in game one?

Offensive Grade = B+
Jackson Arnold played very well, Receivers played below average.
OL was a huge improvement over the past 3 seasons but have some penalties to clean up. Averaged 6 ypc rushing with zero turnovers.

Defense Grade = D
Poor Tackling, penalties, MA’s , and blown coverage by the DB’s. We gave up 419 yards passing …. Nuff said.

Special Teams Grade = A+
Solid performance, flawless really except for one minor penalty. Was surprised to see Mac in the game, but glad to see him succeed. Pleasant was a game breaker.

more cowbell …

Offense - A (Receivers caught everything catchable, blocked their asses off)

Defense C (Bad all around but only gave up 24 pts and Baylor couldn't run)

Special Teams B+ ( 3 penalties, 2 alignment on punts, and kick catch interference)

Offense: A, was expecting the first game and new QB to be a struggle, complete opposite.

Defense: C-, hyped up all off season about the depth, but no QB pressure, did not wrap up, looked slow. I knew the coaches wanted to prevent injuries during offseason, but they have got to get much tougher and gritty.

Special teams: A, nothing went wrong, business as usual.

QB: A - mistake free football, was dynamic with his legs.
RB: C+ I don’t think we have anything close to an elite back this year but they were fine. Thought there were a few chances for big gains where the vision was lacking. Want to see how they do picking up blitzes in pass pro
WR: B Didn’t get a ton of chances in the passing game but no drops and were busting their asses on the edges blocking.
OL: A- really controlled the line of scrimmage. Not a ton was asked of them yet in pass pro but did what was asked of them

DL: B didn’t dominate but controlled the run game and got decent pressure most of the game
LB/DB’s: C- out of position most of the night and nobody was really playing with an edge. Think I only saw one decent play on the ball all night by a DB

Can’t be said enough. They will get theirs, but we haven’t had WR’s commit to blocking like that in a while.

Coleman dropped on his hands the first play. Who’s got the tar?

Offense: B+
Defense: C+/B-
Special Teams: A+

I think the big thing with this game was that it felt like we completely reversed our problems last year. Offensive line had great push all game which gave us sustainable offense. No turnovers. Special teams were great.

Don’t want to over analyze the defense yet. They allowed too many passing yards but Baylor was still only 5-15 on third downs and they kept their running game to 2.6 YPC. It was nice not getting gashed. 4 sacks, 5 TFL, plenty to build on

I hope our expensive receivers like to block and do bubble routes.

Punt team actually had 3 penalties… 2 illegal formations and 1 kick-catch interference.

We need to make their receivers pay for going across the middle on slants and shite. We are not getting enough pressure on the QB and we are not forcing turnovers. Durkin has a whole lot of work to do.

Yea we got 4 sacks but they dropped back like 50 times. There wasn't sustained pressure.

Ball placement was bad on that below his knees and inside taking him into the defender. Not a horrible throw but very difficult catch

I didn’t say it was a perfect throw, but it was definitely catchable when it goes right between his hands.

Leverage in man coverage was terrible on the inside WRs. Played way too straight up on them. In man you want to leverage the WR to have to dodge you at least and make them play through you some. Way too much free release to the inside route.

I thought Amaris and Jay Crawford both were getting decent pressure. Keldric had a couple plays as well but he was inside shade a lot when lining up. We were not going to let them run behind the middle of the line of scrimmage.

We definitely have a lot to improve on and I said it right after the game we looked to have tired legs on defense. Kind of confirmed my statement when Freeze brought it up in his post game presser.
