Personally I was hoping for zero, just to piss off our players and have them feeling disrespected.

Christen Miller
CJ Allen
Bolden
Everette

...The hope is that our defense will play hungrier this year. Definitely won't have as many players on defense with high draft grades and one foot already in the NFL door. I wonder how much we missed Dumas-Johnson last season. He couldn't run like the other linebackers but he was one of the best leaders Kirby ever had. Supposedly CJ Allen is the undisputed leader on defense this year, which will be interesting. Allen is more raw and real like Dumas-Johnson and less corporate like the guys we had last year with Jalon Walker and Malaki Starks. Given the option, give me a leader on defense that's a little rougher around the edges and the announcers don't say "Boy, we we so impressed with him in meetings. He could be president one day!"

CJ wears Roquan's number. I hope he finally lives up to all the hype this year. He has seemed mediocre the last two years.

I want CJ to be Roquan. That's all I'm saying.

He was a leader but acting like he was Nakobe or Nolan or somebody is a stretch.

JDJ was the undisputed leader of a defense that won a national championship. That probably secures his place as "one of the best leaders Kirby has had."

Kirby disagreed. He picked two sophmores, Mykel Williams and Malakai Starks, as defensive reps for the 2023 SEC media days. The fact that after that 2023 season Dumas Johnson left LBU UGA for Kentucky without a fight makes it additionally clear that he wasn't considered a team leader, much less one of the best leaders Kirby's ever had.

He was a team leader but wasn’t a great player. Two things can be true.

Nah. Kirby doesn't bypass an undisputed leader for two underclassmen at SEC media days. And he wasn't going to pay up to keep JDJ from leaving for UK. The fact that Dumas Johnson even wanted to trade UGA for UK and a few bucks in his money season means he definitively knew he wasn't on solid ground at UGA, and not just because of talent.

He left because he lost his starting spot. Not money. Again, he can be a great leader but not a great player

He left because he was valued somewhere else and his "leadership" was no longer wanted at UGA by his head coach.

It wasn’t his leadership that was the issue unless you don’t believe Kirby. But you just keep believing what you want

I believe Kirby. Kirby's actions made it clear in the summer of 2023 when he sent two defensive underclassmen to SEC media days and left JDJ at home. That's not how Kirby treats an undisputed team leader.

Why would he bring a player who’s not a starter?

He was a starter in 2023 until he got hurt in the 9th game. He was named pre-season 1st team All-SEC at the SEC media days where he was absent. He was a Butkus award finalist in 2022 and was on the watch list and considered a strong candidate to win the award in 2023. But, his coach didn't consider him a leader and Kirby sent that message before the season started by leaving him home during SEC media days. Johnson heard it too.
