Gunner Stockton

Im more in the bearish camp when it comes to Gunner. So to me, Kirby bringing him to SEC Media Days as the lone offensive rep (and the general building up of Gunner in interviews and to the media at a level we have never seen from Kirby) is either Kirby trying keep Gunners confidence as high as possible or Kirby actually thinks Gunner is the fricking man and is basically peacocking him around.

I worry that if Gunner fails to produce, this sort of "build up" will make it that much harder for Kirby to sit Gunner and play the back up.

Gunner is a horrible interviewee and comes off as a flake, similar to brock bowers.

Good analysis. Agree it will be a tough watch.

Do you think Kirby is trying to convince the fans and himself that Gunner is the guy?

I think he respects Gunner and wants him to do well more so than any player...for whatever reason...I'm sure he wants to get redemption for Bobo, the offense, and maybe twist the screws on Beck too.

I don't think so. I don't think there was bad blood there (other than moron fans). I think it was mutual. The whole plan was for Beck to enter the draft but then his arm got fricked up. So his draft stock went down considerably. Kirby couldn't guarantee him a starting spot this year if he has to miss all spring and summer depending on how the surgery rehab goes. And Miami was over there saying "We'll take a chance on you, and here's a million dollars". I don't think it was anything more complicated than that.

I fall in the camp of thinking there is bad blood there.

I base that on reading between the lines of the players and coaches comments when referencing Beck vs Gunner last year. Some of it was just hyping Gunner up Im sure, but some of it felt deeper.

Heard some first hand accounts that's he was pretty distant from the team and the NIL stuff I think rubbed some the wrong way.

Gunner is going to make you and a slew of others look really stupid by December. He's going to ball out. The kid can play.

I would be willing to bet that this season's offensive output is significantly worse than last year's. I hope that I'm proven wrong.

The backup QB must get early game experience. I worry about Gunner's ability to survive against SEC linebackers.

"The kid can play"

You can say this about every single D1 QB in the country. They are on scholarships because they are good. They got the starting job because they were better than their team mates who are also good, and on scholarship.

Just because you ref'd a high school game or two with Gunner on the field doesn't mean he's going to light it up in the SEC.

We have 1.5 games of tape on him. There's no way to give a fair assessment at this point. He has definitely shown some flaws.

People will dissect anything. If we DIDN'T bring Gunner, it'd be "he's an upperclassman starting QB and the face of the team this year...isn't it really odd Kirby wouldn't bring him? He must really suck arse". dude is the starting QB..he's kinda by default one of the best choices to bring.

I don't see GS being "built up", at all.

Wong, get back in your kitchen cooking local dog and cat delight and leave football prognostications to people better equiped.

If we have some ping pong in ding dang questions we will be sure to ask your opinion.

Fair point on it being a story if he didn't come.

But you must not be paying attention much this off season if you haven't noticed Kirby hyping Gunner up.

Gunner is going to make you look dumb.

It's like the entire fanbase and some in the media , looking at you Dukes and Bell, want him to fail.

He was not the reason we lost to ND.

Yes, I have seen Gunner up close. And when you do this long enough, you can just tell when certain guys stand out and have "it."

Gunner fits both of those descriptions.

Jesus

It should be better just based on that we will have far less drops from the WR corps.

You think that the WRs are not going to be able to catch WORSE THAN LAST YEAR?

I'm not the one that posted that, but I mean I can definitely see it.

-We will definitely be downgrading, at least on paper and out of the gates, at RB. We have Frazier and a bunch of young gusy that havne't done a thing. We have a transfer from a crappy big 10 school who is a plodder and essentially fills the role of rod rob
-We should be better at WR, I almost don't see how we wouldn't be
-We downgrade at QB, at the very least in the skill department. This isn't intended to be some big debate, but I mean 12 months ago Beck was getting some talk as the #1 overall pick coming off of an outstanding 2023 campaign. Despite his utter failures as an actual team leader, the guy is profesionally talented. Despite shattering HS records, Gunner aint playing a down of NFL football.
-Our OL under CSS will continue to be a neverending question mark

All that said...I can certainly see us being worse on offense at least early in the year. I can ALSO see a situation where once we get a few games to gel, we look exponentially better than last year. There's so much to be said for momentum when your WRs actually catch the ball, and *gasp* get some YAC to boot. I might be more excited abotu the USC transfer at WR than anyone else on the roster.

Gunner reminds me of Andrew Luck, Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy and the Manning brothers (before they grew half a personality) in the way that they're such football nerds that they're incapable of acting normal in public, sort of like idiot savants but idiot would be too strong of a word.

This is the mindset coaches want in a quarterback.

Your mom is a flake!!!
