Looks like On3 has just shut down most of the Rivals websites...

It looks like most of the Rivals sites just got shut down and On3 is requiring subscriptions to post at their new site for Rivals. Wouldn't be surprised to see an influx of those people here before the season starts.

That's a shame even though I haven't been on there in years.

Yep even though it got slower I liked the game threads on the free board there. I had been posting there since 06 under the same username. I mentioned this place to the people there telling them it was a really active main board and the team board got some activity around when the season was getting close.

Blame Shannon Terry. The man created a monster and no one can stop him.

And On3. And 247. He’s flipped them all minus On3 and now he bought Rivals back for nothing.
No one in the business can come close to competing with him.

I've got a lot of good memories of browsing the main (free) board in the mid to late 00s.

Paramount/CBS Sports,
He sold Rivals to Yahoo.
The man is worth worth well over $100 million at this point because he figured out marketing recruiting better than anyone else.

Shannon Terry also co created Alliance Sports back about 1996, which was the first group of SEC college football sites, including the original BamaOnline, which Terry also created and owned.
Alliance Sports is where The Bunker got its name. One night several Alabama fans were on the Auburn open board doing what rival fans do and an Auburn poster that went by JR (nice fellow ) advised Will Woods, the Auburn site owner and administrator, to just bunker down on the private Auburn board for the night. It was forever more The Bunker.
Alliance Sports went busted in 2000. Shannon Terry (Lucky) hooked up with a guy that had a similar group of teams out west, and they created Rivals. They eventually sold that site, i think to Yahoo, and Terry started 247. He sold that after a few years and created On3. The man knows how to make money. That’s for sure.

With so many posters at Rupp Rafters you would think they would just create a copy of that board on a new website.

Would you say that’s the kind of site an Alabama fan makes?

The Main Board? There were some legendary threads between Rivals and the start of 24/7. Steve Cook is one that stands out.
