'mater saying what he said about recruiting and now this?

Why would Freeze step down?
He could tank and collect a payday, so what does stepping down actually get him?
Brian Stultz has been friends with Hugh Freeze long before Freeze was hired at Auburn so he would know.

The only reason he would even consider stepping down would be health related issues. Wasn’t he diagnosed with prostate cancer? I know it’s a low mortality rate cancer but in rare cases it can be aggressive and metastasize.

He caught that very early. He aint giving up milions because of that.

I reported this a couple of weeks ago, but I believe it is worth repeating: Freeze said the new financial aspect of the game literally made him sick.
"I made it easier on myself. I got totally out of the money stuff," Freeze said. "It was killing me. I looked at them different. When they were lined up to come in here and that's all they wanted to talk about, it affected my mindset. That's not what coaching is to me. God as my witness, I let Will (Redmond) and his guys do all that now.
"I told the players in the spring: 'I don't care how much you make and don't want to know. I will tell you what real life is. I don't care how much somebody paid for a horse, I decide which horse runs. You can check all that at the door. I just stay out of the talks."

He’s got NIL backing, but with the new settlement payments to players will have a salary cap. Auburn is being honest with recruits about the unknowns right now. Not sure all schools are. What happens when a school makes a promise it cannot keep? I don’t think any commit will be firm until December.
