We really do have this moral victory thing down to a science.

Ray Tanner's ability to take a CWS winning program and turning it into the laughing stock of the SEC is something that should be written about for generations.
This baseball team is utter dogshit. They find new ways to lose.

Does South Carolina care about sports? Seriously. We got rid of our fool Cohen. I figured Tanner would be gone by now.

Their football’s decent and women’s basketball is their prized possession. Reminds me of Tennessee in the 2000s, except their men’s basketball is worse.
Losing the Citrus Bowl to Illinois soured last season for them a bit, considering they were right on the cusp of making the Playoff.

Tanner is gone, we just hired a new AD from TCU. I suspect he will fire Paul and do his own search. Tanner was a mixed bag for me. I liked some things he did as AD and hated others.

Fans? Absolutely.
Administration? No, not really. Harris Pastides was our outgoing president, and he was a woke douchebag.
For the vast majority of time, SC's admin was just ecstatic to be in a conference and cash checks. Hyman broke us out of that, but then left. Tanner politicked himself into the job, but he was objectively bad at it. He finally retired after burning through 3 baseball coaches and a Muschamp Mulligan.
Being a fan/alum of a University who largely refuses to love you back is maddening. But, we're all sisyphean masochists.

Reading between the lines it seems like the talent just isn't there, at least not at the level of the Tennessees and LSUs. Is there a haul coming in for next year? If not CPM may be headed back to retirement soon.

I know the feeling all too well.

Oh they will be glad to love you back. Have you got a pen and a checkbook?

The Paul Maineri hire was always weird to me. Not saying CPM is a bad coach but it felt like he gave up at LSU and wandered what he saw that made him think it would be easier at USC vs LSU.
Don't wish anything bad on USC just seemed like a bad hire.

It was simultaneously lazy and safe. It allowed Tanner to bring in a respected name, and try and show that the program wasn't far off from being good again.
Instead, it showed that PM has been away from NCAA baseball too long, and can't get the most out if the talent he actually has. Granted, SC's not fielding a team of stars like we used to, but it's not all flotsam, either.
Tanner's gamble was that PM would calm the program for a few years and then allow another swing at a major upgrade when PM was done (again).
Instead, a program that was teetering on at least being decent has fallen deeper into a crater. New AD Donati needs to talk PM into retiring, and begin an earnest search for a guy who wants the job and knows what this program *should* be. Early leaders in the clubhouse are Troy HC Skylar Meade, UTK assistant Elander, and North Greenville HC Landon Powell.

I mean our facilities as a whole are much nicer now than the used to be. I get Hyman was a part of the early stages, but Gamecock park is an absolute gem. That area down by the stadium is going to continue to become nicer as they develop that land the university owns
I think Coaches liked working for him, enough to stay here when they could have gone elsewhere (Dawn, even Spurrier staying past when he wanted to) .
Ray was on top of the NIL stuff, the NCAA just really screwed us with the Park Avenue stuff.
I think the Shane Beamer hire has been a good one, a year ago we would have said the paris hire as well. Our new softball coach has been crushing it.
There is plenty to not be happy with Ray about, but again I dont think every move he made was wrong. He certainly isnt' the worst AD we have had

I was a student under him, and we all loved the guy. He supported Athletics as well as was present on campus. I can't hate on Pastides.

I get that. Sorensen was my president, and that dude was very easy to like. Some of the things that Pastides did as president behind the scenes were complete reversals from Sorensizzle, so he draws some ire (probably misplaced, TBH) from me.

my brother had Bow tie as a president. I heard he was a good man too. Understandable to be loyal to the guy you had as well. I cant always speak for the behind the scenes because I guess in college I didnt pay super close attention, but the fact Pastides and his wife were always present put a lot of us at ease.

Cheers. Completely understandable.
Quick Sorensen anecdote:
Facebook had just come to SC.edu email addresses when I was in undergrad. Someone created an Andrew Sorensizzle profile, complete with poorly photoshopped Thug Life attire.
Sorensen knew, and DMed the account (I knew the guy who ran it). Sorensen thought it was hilarious.
Anyway, SC baseball sucks and it's misery to follow anymore. Especially thinking about how awesome these days used to be at the Sarge.
