Has a Rick Barnes/Mark Richt comparison been made here in the last few days?

I haven't been keeping up, but just in case it hasn't, the Rick Barnes Tennessee era and Mark Richt Georgia era have looked and felt a lot alike. And I'm not saying that either coach should be ashamed of the job they did. Both are excellent coaches. But it is what it is!

Yes and DVH was added in there as well.
Still better to get there and lose than not make it at all.

Just ridiculous to even disparage those guys.
Making a FF or winning a Championship is hard. It requires a great team, coach and some good fortune.
People on here will degrade Coach Polk because he never won a NC and act like Skip Bertman was a much better coach.
But Polk had teams that were capable of winning a NC (1979, 1984, 1985, 1989, 1992 to mention a few) but they didn’t. All were great teams and players but came up short.
And there have been plenty of other teams that were good enough to win a Natty but did not because it is difficult and only one team stands at the top at the end of the season.
So I don’t get impugning Coach Barnes because he only made the Elite Eight this year. Really? I don’t like Tennessee but they had a very good club this year.

Polk was good but not great. Skip was better because he had better results.

If "it" is simply that neither was able to win the ultimate prize then you can say "it" also applies to several thousand other coaches.
This just seemed like an excuse to try to disparage Richt for some odd reason out of the blue.

Mark Richt was a good coach. It would be very doubtful if Georgia would have won a title if they kept him.
Sometimes you need a change and Georgia upgraded with Kirby Smart.

College Baseball celebrates the Elite Eight and College Basketball acts like its a failure.
In the last two years hes made two elite eights and won the SEC. A lot of sec schools much less cbb schools would trade for him. Ask the schools with Rodney Terry Mike White or Pat McMahon.

I get your point but only the morons think an elite 8 is a failure. Even a Sweet 16 is a damn good thing in basketball. This board and just likes to troll.

Making the Sweet Sixteen would be considered a good year but making them multiple times begins to lose its luster.

Mark Richt isn't in the same league as DVH.

Rick Barnes is a more accomplished coach than Mark Richt.

Richt had his team in the top 7 at some point in 10 different seasons. Finished 5 yards short of making the national championship game in 2012. Finished number 2 in 2007. One miracle Ohio State fourth down conversion from playing in the national title game in 2002.

Yeah, but wouldn’t you rather make them than not?

Yeah but a final four is more fun. You never get tired of those.

I dont watch, nor care about basketball. Tennessee has never been a basketball school. If barnes never makes it to a final 4. Im peefectly okay with it. He has kept a top 10 team that competes year in and year out.
