I don't know that we faceplant. And I seriously doubt that we will begin the year in the top 10. We should be somewhere around 15.

To answer the question, I don't think they face plant in 09. I also don't think they will meet the expectations of some of their more rabid fans. A 9 win season would be an accomplishment but probably not enough for some with higher expectations. They have a chance to be a very good football team this year but they shouldn't be discouraged if they are not in Atlanta in December. Its an important football season for Ole Miss.

True statement. We need at the least an 8 or 9 win season, next year. As far as our "rabid" fans go, we have had a whole lot of success over the last couple of years. So some fans are jumping on the bandwagon, but what I hope these fans realize is that we cant set the bar to high... Next season cannot be Atlanta or bust. We are still building a program...

BILLY MAYS HERE - I AGREE!!!!

Personally speaking, I expect a 9 win season - anything more is gravy and anything less would be a disappointment.

Several West teams will be MUCH improved...particularly LSU, AU, Arky and MSU

LSU

Black, Lafell, and Scott coming back helps their cause. JJ still has a lot to prove. Defense was average last year.

AU

Their overall talent level is not what it used to be. It'll take a year or 2 for Malzahn's offense to get the right pieces. No one is expecting anything big from them so they could surprise some teams. Defense should be solid again - but losing Marks and Powers hurts.

Arky

If Mallett is better than either Dick, they are going to be dangerous. Their D was better than expected last year and they have good receivers. Mike Smith is a beast - best RB I saw last year.

MSU

They don't have the talent on either line to win more than 1 or 2 SEC games next year, IMO. They lose their best player to the draft this year (Pegues). Who is going to block for Dixon next year? Their defense should be OK. Still no QB.

No. They sucked this year compared to normal standards considering what we had coming back.

HOWEVER, there is a reason for that. Co-DCs. If you don't think it made a significant difference, Fire Nix, and go get those 2 DCs we had this year and you will find out when teams are raping you up and down the field.

I'm going on record and predicting LSU to be much improved on D this year. Maybe top 10.

Who does Bama have slinging the rock to Julio next year?

good question. An open competition for the spot. he only that guy that has thrown a pass is as RS junior who played in the last few minutes of a couple of blowouts the last several years. He's never thrown a pass when the game is on the line or with the starters.....and he's the most experienced option.

keep in mind he will face in improved LSU defense, a Tennessee defense with Monte Kiffin and Orgeron, and possibly a LOADED florida defense, and i believe a strong FSU defense. Ole Miss should be solid on defense again as well. Very, very tough for a green QB.

with such high expectations and an apparent top 10 preseason ranking?

I certainly see it as possible.

It is a possiblilty. However there are some things to consider

We went 9-4 this year with wins over Florida, LSU, and Texas Tech. We lost 4 games by a total of 19 points. All four of the teams we lost to were in bowl games.

We bring back 16 starters from last year's team. 10 or so will be seniors. We have 30 seniors on the team period, and return the best QB in the SEC West. We play all of the SEC West Contenders: LSU, Bama, and Arkansas at home. We have Auburn and Ms. State on the road. Our Eastern division opponents are Tennessee at home and Vandy and South Carolina on the road. The stars are aligning for Ole Miss next year...I can't honestly tell you if we will live up to the hype.
We return 16 starters for next

Wildcat, can you post a link to the thread that caused your complete mental collapse because of something I posted?

Thanks.
