I haven't watched much basketball all season(LSU awful) but the SEC tourney was great. Texas has a beast player on their team(I think a freshman) and they were exciting to watch as well. Is Xavier a good matchup??

Both are relatively evenly matched in terms of efficiency, but Xavier has slightly more momentum coming in.

Probably a 76–74 kind of game.

BTW, North Carolina vs San Diego State should be similarly entertaining later this evening.

The Xavier Musketeers had to sweat before hearing their name called on Selection Sunday, but Sean Miller’s team is going dancing for the second time in three seasons.

The Musketeers earned a No. 11 seed in the Midwest Region and will take on another team that just snuck into the field, the Texas Longhorns, in a First Four matchup in Dayton, Ohio.

The Musketeers lost to Marquette in the Big East Tournament quarterfinals last week but had won seven straight games before that loss.

Three players average double-figures in scoring for Xavier, led by forward Zach Freemantle and guard Ryan Conwell.

Defensively, the Musketeers are solid at keeping their opponents off the glass but have struggled at times this season defending both inside and outside the arc.

Rodney Terry’s Texas group has beat Texas A&M twice, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma, Missouri and Mississippi State, all of whom are tournament teams.

Texas is led by true-freshman star Tre Johnson, a likely lottery pick in the 2025 NBA Draft who averages nearly 20 points per game as a highly-productive wing scorer. He was named the SEC Freshman of the Year one week ago.

Johnson shoots almost 40 percent from three and is second on the Longhorns in assists per game, supported on the perimeter by guards Jordan Pope and Tramon Mark. Forward Arthur Kaluma is the Longhorn's anchor in the paint.

Xavier and Texas have recent history with one another in the NCAA Tournament, the two teams having met in the Sweet 16 of the 2023 tournament, with Texas pulling out an 83-71 win.

Don't let the Ohio State avatar fool you, I am a huge Xavier basketball fan.

Since Xavier doesn't have a football team a lot of us choose either Notre Dame or Ohio State. Luckily I was born into a Xavier/Ohio State family.

But this should be a great match up.

Xavier has only 1 Quad 1 win but that could easily be 6 or 7. They have lost some heartbreakers where they had big leads in the second half and blew it. They also have been playing their best basketball of late and blew a 14 point lead in the second half against Marquette (there is a theme here) in the Big East Tournament.

I will be driving up to Dayton along with numerous other Xavier fans Wednesday night so it should be almost a home game for X. But if the local Dayton fans by up tickets they will be cheering for Texas because they loathe Xavier.

Final Score prediction

Xavier - 78
Texas - 74

Texas fan here… Go Xavier!

Kidding… sort of. I would like them to win 1-2 games in the tournament.

Terry is a good guy but he is in over his head at Texas. University is “nice” and will always do the “right” thing (despite the BS stereotypes) so they will prob keep him if Texas makes a decent run. Even though everyone knows (and has always known) that the program will be held back as long as he is the guy in charge.

Looking forward to the game tomorrow… rare chance to just enjoy a game bc it’s truly win/win for Texas fans

I hope SDS wins by 30, just to embarrass Cunningham and the committee

Not sure about the 30, but I think SDSU is more than capable of winning this game.

I hope, but NC winning helps the committee and I don't want that

that beast of a freshman went 0-14 from the floor vs OU and not much better his last game although he did hit game winner for the A@M game... hes not a great shooter imo and hes a little overrated imo.

I’m not even a big basket ball guy but the first two rounds of the ncaa tournament are exciting af, especially in todays climate of college sports being big business, it’s really fun watching some of these student athletes from programs with no budget get their one day to be a legend.

Yeah, I had a hard time watching last night's game for some reason...

Tonight should be fun though...
