No cap and no real regulation will lead to a few teams that have the deepest pockets getting the pick of any players they want, while teams that don’t have those resources will have to either build a team through their farm system (recruiting) or save up money for one big run at a title every so often.

The only difference being that MLB teams get to keep their young talent for a few years before the big teams can swoop in and take them away. With CFB, you’ll get one season before they take the bag and go.

Here’s the really bad news: MLB is the least popular of the major sports. I’m afraid CFB is going that way if something isn’t done to stop this madness.

The only reasonable solution that I see to getting CFB back to the way it used to be is to add a 5th year of eligibility. Signing with a team out of high school is contractual for 3 years. You're allowed to transfer after your 3 years, declare for the draft, or opt in for a fourth year at your school. That way, if a player does transfer after three years, they'll have up to two more years of eligibility to build value before the draft.

It's a similar situation to the MLB where teams can have cost controlled prospects for 6-7 years once they make it to the majors.

That is incorrect.

College football will definitely start to lose traction. I stopped watching college basketball when the one and done era began because I no longer knew who was on the team. Sadly this is the first time in my life I couldn't give you the two deep for next years football team.

Baseball is a better product now IMO, and Americans will slowly come home to America's true past time

MLB will always have the summer to themselves and it is the perfect sport to follow passively but go to a weekend series game every so often if you're near a team. Speak of...I think it is about time to go to a Braves game again...

So you've denied yourself enjoying one of the best eras of Alabama basketball the last few years? That sucks for you. It's been awesome.

They’ve got to change something because for me, and maybe I’m not in the majority anymore, but my interest is at an all time low, and that’s including the DuBose, Fran, Shula years.

I’m just not that interested in the current product they’re putting out, and it’s because I know for sure now that the players don’t care what team they’re playing for, it’s a job, just like anything else. Maybe they never did, but at least when they committed, it felt like they made a choice that I would make and we could all be passionate about the team together.

Sure, the fans don’t contribute to the team, whatever, but without our interest the sport dies.

There was definitely a time when the players cared in college football. Not that long ago, it wasn't uncommon to see players crying after a loss. That passion was always the biggest reason it was more entertaining than the NFL.

Also, to your last point, one of the insane things about this system is that fans are expected to contribute to the team in a very tangible way. You've got players on Bama's roster now getting paid big money to ride the bench, so if you've ever bought a hot dog at BDS you're contributing more than many of these guys.

Yeah, resources never mattered before NIL. Glad to see Ohio State, Texas, Notre Dame, and Penn State finally doing something in the NIL era.
