Old Main Dorm, which was the largest dorm in the US, burned to the ground overnight. Many students were injured and at least one died. The bricks were used to build the Chapel of Memories, which still stands on States campus.

Fire broke out and spread quickly. Not sure the cause. It’s a miracle hundreds didn’t die that night.

Yep. And that guy got out. Went back in to get his stereo and didn’t make it back out.
The entire dorm had wood floors. They cleaned them with oil to keep dust from gathering. That fire spread so fast.

The chapel is pretty. One of my favorite buildings on campus

That’s scary. Glad most everyone escaped. Sad for the one young person who lost their life.

Old main sat where McCool hall is now. McCool was where most all my classes were.
When they were doing the renovations and expansion on McCool…the fire alarm kept going off that summer during summer classes. We kept saying that’s the ghost of the guy who died in old main.

Were there any LSU fans tailgating near it?
