Coach Saban once said that when teams have an extended time off from playing in the regular season to the bowl games/playoffs, the #1 problem the team experiences is a.......lack of tackling. Saban's correct on this.

So, did having a bye negatively affect the teams that had them? Teams that didn't have a bye all won. They all played more recently than teams with a bye.

Well, some are now saying that no team in the future playoffs ought to receive a bye. LINK

In Boise and ASU's cases, the better team simply won.

Oregon fell victim to the rematch phenomenon, not uncommon to see it go sideways for the first time winner in the bowl game.

Georgia we'll never know bc of lack of Beck, but you think he'd have been worth at least 7 points and then in a tight game who knows?

Having a jug-eared walk on wandering the sidelines apickin a banjer did it, in at least one game.

Boise and ASU were underdogs. Boise and PSU went about the way everyone thought it would. ASU played better than everyone thought they would.

UGA yet again struggled to block a good DL. It's not the first time that happened this year. Did the bye play a role? Maybe. But their OL struggled to protect a few times this year and their QB, who helps with protection calls, was making his first start.

Oregon - OSU is the really the only anomaly. I think that is better explained by OSU being the most talented roster in CFB this year top to bottom and playing like it.
