OOC and SoS Matters

The only reason that Alabama was even in the conversation is because it played a difficult conference schedule and had a decent OOC game in Wisconsin.
No other conference was going to have 3-loss teams in the discussion. Losing to good teams is not what kept Alabama out, losing two 6 win teams cost Alabama. Being in the SEC allowed them to even be close with three losses.
So for all the chicken Littles screaming that the sky is falling because a three loss SEC team, with two losses in conference to 6-win teams did not get in the playoffs, your observations are wrong. Strength of schedule and non-Conference opponents kept them in the discussion with three losses, two of which were really bad losses.

And yet the ACC snuck one in by virtue of that stupid AQ bullshite.

All they had to do was beat Oklahoma. Oklahoma, I said.

Maybe those teams are 6-6 teams because they played very difficult schedules? #4 and #8 SOS.

Should be an IQ test to post on the internet, the CFP just told us the exact opposite

It is wild. People are acting like this is because the top of the league beat itself up and everyone got dinged for losses to top teams. Alabama is in if they don't lose to 2 inferior teams. Ole Miss is in if they don't lose to 2 inferior teams. Hell, the SEC logo carries enough clout that both teams were getting in if they had only wet the bed against one inferior in-conference opponent instead of 2.

Why does that matter? We are talking about at-large berths.
Clemson only got in because they were an AQ. Same for Arizona St.
I’m talking about all the people saying there is no benefit to playing in the SEC or in scheduling tough OOC games. There absolutely is benefit. What we saw this year is that a 2-loss SEC team is a lock and 3-loss team is on the bubble. No other conference gets that.

Alabama was still in the conversation with 2 bad losses. What other conference gets that benefit (not saying it’s earned, but certainly a benefit)
