If he wants to coach college basketball, I have no doubt he’ll be successful. But asking someone with no HC experience and no experience in the portal / NIL space to take over this program right now is not a good decision.
Coaching. Talent is not top 4, but it’s not 15-50 bad over the last 4 years.

He is not a P5 coach.
If whoever we hire at the end of this season has us safe safely in the field in early February, I will be very happy with the one year turnaround.
Are you judging on one year success or sustained success? Brady had a better one year result, WW was far more consistent.
He’s in year 1 and has his team safely on the field. Are they top 4 in the league, probably just outside of that.

I would say that most programs in the country would take that in year one.
Average teams don’t just roll into Colonial Life in front of tens and tens of fans and walk out with a W.

I suspect our target will be someone who is in the tournament, so it will drag on enough for people to get hopeful it's Wade. Time will tell.

Agreed. As long as a certain person from SWLA is on the BOS, Wade is the target. As mentioned above his buyout drops $2MM on April 1, 2026, so don't think we'll have a coach until Final Four weekend.

I'm just not sure with all the baggage in the past that either party (the administration, not the fans) would be all that gungho to renew the relationship.

I can assure you the CURRENT LSU administration is very excited about renewing that relationship. It's like some people in a fantasy world that when President Rousse took the LSU job, that he inherited all of his predecessor's feelings about Wade. Quite the opposite, Wade and Rousse are very close.
Good analysis, the point being made is it wouldn't take much of a bump from what we are paying now to offer Wade more than his current deal.

There are some mouth breathers on here who think NCST is paying Wade significantly more than LSU is paying MM. That's just not the case; the deals are fairly similar. A 6-year deal with the average annual comp in the $4-4.5MM would be a nice bump for Wade, and is probably middle of the pack for SEC coaches salaries. For instance, Jans is at $4.2MM.

ETA. According this article from last year, we are already near the bottom of the conference in what we pay MM. The fact that Wade's deal is similar at NCST is positive.

It would be nearly identical with a team in worse shape.

Not sure why the team in worse shape matters. With the portal, any new coach at LSU is turning over 80-90% of this roster. He did the same at NCST last year and would likely be doing it again this year.
TJ won an SEC title and an NCCAT game.

JJ at least made an NCCAT, and was on the bubble for another berth.

MM's teams are not even competitive. And the "bad luck" narrative by the few ignorant MM supports is ridiculous. 70% of his conference losses are by double digits.

Ignoring basketball is financially dumb

The spending on women’s hoops is where the cuts should come.

There is a reason why Kim was upset when Scott was canned. He was the only one dumb enough to pour money into WBB and neglect MBB. That makes zero financial sense.

Not at all advocating that we should cut make cuts to WBB, but it should not be the priority over MBB.
We had 14 spot drop in the NET overnight. I don't think I've ever seen drop that big in late January...

Warren Nolan now projects LSU to win 1 more game this year.

Yes, this is as bad as it can possibly get.
It is not owed upfront. It is paid out monthly over the remaining term and offset by any Basketball revenue he earns.

The reality is we cannot afford to keep him. The revenue generated by a successful program would easily pay the monthly expense left on his contract.

You can’t afford not to fire him at this point.

And yes, the financial support is there and a target has been identified and there is complete “alignment” to get it done.
No, this is what happens when bend the knee to the NCAA and fire the coach that took you to 4 straight NCAAT’s.

And then make the lazy cheap hire.

We'll see. A loss tonight is the McNail in the coffin.

LSU -6.5 pt favorites though

Can we agree that there is no excuse for losing this game at home, as a 6.5 point favorite, and with your starting PG playing? You agreed that was the case for South Carolina...and that didn't end well.

Just want to make sure we smoke all the excuses out before tipoff.

And if they’re not, then we should all be able to agree it’s time to move on, right?

Maybe winning the first conference title in a decade?

Maybe a last second shot to beat Kentucky? Maybe a last second shot to get to the Sweet 16.
