So all we have to do is root for SMU and Boise? Then it’s a lock?

Boise doesn't matter. We just move up a spot.

The CFP spokesman said the teams that are not playing on Saturday will not change their position. I take that to mean Bama is in!

Awesome! So there are no crazy scenarios where we don’t make it at this point?
Posted on 12/3/24 at 6:32 pm to SPennington
Umm, Clemson beats SMU, we might be out.

I've been saying to root for SMU!

I’m sure I can find an SMU hat somewhere!!

I’m not sure the ACCCG matters tbh

I'm not confident at all in us staying in with a SMU loss, but at the same time, they seem pretty committed to putting another SEC team in. Miami dropped like a rock after losing to a 9-3 Syracuse

By what he said and he repeated it twice that the teams not playing will not change position. So, Clem/SMU is an elimination game.

SMU winning puts us 100% in.
Clemson winning opens the possibility of SMU remaining in front of us, taking the final spot instead of us.
So go SMU.

He said that they wouldn't change position relative to the other teams that are not playing. In other words nobody behind us could jump us if they aren't playing. But if Clemson wins and they only drop SMU a couples of spots all the teams not playing would just slide back out of the playoff.

Again relative to other teams also not playing. Only means no way for Miami or South Carolina to jump us.

They have also said that they will not punish a team for losing their conference championship game.
And if that really is the case, the big 12 CG is important as well

Don't think that was what he meant. I think he was talking about there was no way Miami or South Carolina could jump us. I'm not confident SMU can lose and Bama still get in, unless they get blown out.

He gave the keys to their decision to move Miami so far. Now do the same for SMU. So you’re telling me they are willing to drop Miami 6 spot and not SMU who is ranked 8 and schedule and wins pale in comparison to Alabama?

I agree, but the committee has said on several occasions that they would not punish the loser of a conference championship game.

“Those who are not playing (on championship weekend), we will not adjust those teams," Manuel said. "Because they won't have another data point, obviously.”
What he said is that teams who are not playing aren’t going to get reevaluated in a comparison between them. As in, Miami, Ole Miss, and South Carolina are not jumping Alabama nor is Alabama jumping Notre Dame, Ohio State, Tennessee, or Indiana.
They said nothing about reevaluating teams who did play this week against teams who didn’t play. How else can they seed the bracket if they don’t reevaluate the teams who participated against those who didn’t? That doesn’t make any sense.

But wouldn’t they have to punish them? They would lose their spot in the top 4. And then where do they go? So you think 11?

Committee always dances around it but they overvalue the lack of losses a bit in this modern era.
I’d rather there just be a 64 team league with 8 divisions. 8 division winners, 8 best remaining records as wildcards. Standard 7-game division, 1 locked interdivision rival, 4 games against random teams from 4 other divisions.
Let’s just get committees with CEOs and politicians out of this shite.
