Most importantly, they bring the most eyes to the TV.

Can you imagine what a Bama/Penn St game would draw?

Currently at -200 odds to make it on multiple sites. Feeling way better than a few weeks ago but it’s far from sure.

I don't think so...only thing I can think of that might be a problem is if Clemson wins in a 6 OT game

If Clemson wins it will be a problem.I think SMU wins. One predictor I saw was Bama as the 12 to PennSt then vs Boise then Oregon (Deboer is their Daddy)

They lost to 6-6 Vanderbilt.
They lost to 6-6 Oklahoma by 21 points.

They don't deserve to be in the playoffs and it's their own fault. Beat the bad teams and you are in the SEC Championship Game.

I would rather miss the playoffs and win the Citrus Bowl and finish 10-3. Go to the playoffs and play either ND, Penn State or Oregon in the first round and go 9-4. Nothing Alabama has shown this year suggests they will beat a good team on the road.

Deboer is in a bad spot either way. Either miss the playoffs or make the playoffs, lose 4 games in one season for the first time since 2007 and end Alabama's 16 year streak of at least 10 wins.

The latter should be a fireable offense, the former means firing his OC and DC as scapegoats.

Such a wasted season with a favorable home and away schedule. Alabama's road schedule.

Wisconsin: 5-7
Vanderbilt: 6-6
Tennessee: 10-2
LSU: 8-4
Oklahoma: 6-6

Doesn't get much easier than that in the SEC.

For funsies, would you rather play at Penn State or at Notre Dame, or at Ohio State?
I'm guessing these are potential home teams, along with Georgia or Texas.

I like the PSU matchup because frankly they aren’t that good and it’s a classic matchup.

This is a weak beta mindset. We could possibly be given a chance for redemption. Let me ask you a question. If we were to win the entire thing, would you celebrate with us and say I knew it all along?

It is a subjective system and it ain’t Alabama’s fault they will likely be #11 this week.

Hell, nobody outside the top 4 (top 6, tops) deserves a shot at the title or to be in the playoffs to compete for one. A 12-team playoff is trash.

Unfortunately, this is the absurd reality of college football, now.

And whether you and I like it or not, the assertion in THIS reality that a 9-3 Alabama team who lost to Vandy and OU deserves a shot is valid. The Associated Press, the coaches, and likely the CFP agree.

There will likely be many years where teams in the CFP (the top 12) will have 3 losses.

Then, they'll expand it to 16 and you're likely to get 4-loss teams. Eventually, everybody with a regulation-sized football on campus will get a shot.
