The most important conference championship game is SMU-Clemson

If SMU wins, there's one spot available

If Clemson wins a close game, it's possible SMU gets the final spot over a 3-loss SEC team (don't believe they deserve it, but the committee appears to think highly of them)

It will likely become a subjective beauty pageant with no right or wrong answers

SMU will lose and still get in. USCe will watch Clemson in the playoffs.

The automatic berth to "five best conference champions" rule is stupid. Clemson lost three games and didn't beat a single ranked team in the regular season. They should be out no matter what.

If you scheduled Houston Christian University, you shouldn’t be allowed to compete for a national title.

Honestly, the committee can make their life a whole lot easier by sticking to what they said multiple times, which is they aren't going to punish a team for losing in their conference Championship game, unless it's like 35-6 or something.

If Clemson beats the Ponies, who are going to be ranked like 7th or 8th in the country after Tuesday, then they need to just keep SMU.

But it's a moot point - SMU is going to roll the taters.

Okay, then how about

Wofford
The Citadel
Idaho
Portland State
Tennessee Tech
Mercer

And any number of shite G5 teams. The key is to beat that team.

Now, if you lose to a Northern Illinois, then we need to talk....

Disagree. There should be some measure of controlling your own destiny by winning your conference. If a team doesn't win their own conference, that's when they should depend on a committee for a second chance.

Hey, it's Miami! Big fan.

Good luck in the Boca Raton Bowl, we're all rooting for you.

It doesn't matter, none of those teams will win the National Championship. The argument could be made between 4th and 5th position during the baby playoffs but no team outside of the top 6 will win the NC title.

In years past I would agree, but there's not a dominant team this year

It's possible that Ole Miss, South Carolina or Alabama could go on a run

Miami has no business in the playoff conversation

Nah. They'll stumble in one of the games.
