It looks like Jonathan Davis actually got his scholarship offer taken away from him Davis
If that really is the case, SC's recruiting class may start going down hill. I wouldn't be so sure of not snagging Holloman from them. Coaches will rail on Spurrier for doing this

According to some (Clean could clue us all in if he was still on the board), Saban has done much worse in the recruiting world since becoming the HC at Bama...

if you're a BCS-level recruit, why would you ever commit early?

To stop the craziness, and know where you're going.
It's good to be certain of your future and begin to get ready for it. Like how RS talks about having discussions with Miles and Crowton about his role in the offense. If he didn't commit until Signing day, they wouldn't have that extra preparation.

From the comments below, it looks like he didn't have the grades to make it.

If you followed this kid's recruitment, this should come as no surprise.
The only reason Davis had an offer was because of Coach Cooper. The rest of the staff had concerns over his size (5'7"), academics and character. The incoming class is also loaded at safety. Cooper pushed hard on Davis; Ellis Johnson and Spurrier relented.
When Davis committed to the USC coaching staff on his visit, his father was on the news the same day denying the commitment. It went back and forth for a while, becoming pretty obvious that Davis and his father were playing a game with Carolina. They were hoping for an offer from a bigger-name program, while keeping USC as a backup plan.
Now that Cooper has left to join LSU's staff, the remaining coaches do not see a place for Davis. Watch and see if LSU offers Davis. I think not -- for the dual reason that y'all can do better and he still has the character and grade isues.
To suggest that Carolina is in trouble over this is just absurd. We have a terrific recruiting class coming -- especially considering our dismal finish and season-long offensive problems. A coach revoking an offer to a recruit with issues is a sign of a strong program; not a weak one. Look at USCw telling Alshon Jeffrey they will pull his offer if he takes other visits [Jeffrey does not have issues, the comparison still applies as Southern Cal has other options and they do not want to risk losing another prospect because of a signing day switch].
Y'all may still get Holloman, but that is solely because of LSU's innate recruiting advantage over South Carolina. It has absolutely nothing to do with Davis.

Davis is already qualified and was a great high school player. He'll make a big impact on the college level. You guys lost a good one. Height be damned he can flat out play football on BOTH sides of the ball.

I agree Davis was a great high school player. Everything I have seen on him is that he has great football speed, great instincts and a mean streak. Pretty much everyone agrees that, but for his height, he would be a 3 or 4 star recruit with multiple offers.
I am simply passing on the information I have seen from Columbia about why USC pulled his offer. And FWIW, several people who should know have said he is a questionable qualifier.
