Brian Kelly and LSU

Tha feels like going back in history to I think it was 2022 and many Ags were calculating buyouts and wondering where the trigger point would be to eject Jimbo as the HC.
I enjoy the LSU predicament on an institutional level because F y’all, but I do feel bad for the individual fan seeing a lame duck coach cash giant assed checks while a program is fumbling trust away.
How strong are the BK loyalists and how convincing is the “there’s nothing to see here?
Last 3 weeks have not been a good look for the program. It sucks to lose but these are program burners. Second half collapse at A&M. It’s bad, but it’s football. Last week a bad loss in Baton Rouge and the broadcast kept showing an empty stadium. Fickle fans. This week players yelling at the HC on the sideline and the coach alluding to players not being on the team (fighters vs non fighters). Cryptic coach speak during tailspin. Tough for any program.
The buyout- where is the “f it, we will pay and move on”?
And it’s not lost on this Ag that the main commonality in our shared situation is Woodward.

They don’t have oil money to fire him. They are stuck with him for at least another 2-3 years

Two years is where I’m thinking. I think 3 years would be a very difficult time for them.
Foundational level- I don’t think Kelly is a great coach but that’s just my opinion. I know he’s not likable and he’s losing the players and the fan base.
You can be a dick as long as you’re winning but he isn’t.

Has Elko proven anything yet

Elko has not proven anything other than the team is on the right track in year one. Still more to do.
But Elko has also proven that getting rid of Jimbo was the right idea to fix the locker room issues.

Proven? Hard to say.
But there are easily seen upgrades vs Fisher from portal activity as soon as he was hired to installation throughout the season.

Woodward and those contracts need to be a cautionary tale for any institution with respect to coaches contracts.

I come at this situation as an alumni of both schools (A&M undergrad, LSU law school), so LSU's current misery is definitely familiar to me.
What is truly maddening was when called out for stupid coaching decisions, Jimbo's go-to move was "We just have to execute", while Kelly's is to blame the players.
Both coaches suck, & Woodward is the devil.

Fisher and Kelly are snake oil salesmen. Jimbo was just comfortable in his hillbillyness and never changed- respectable but funny (see his speech cadence).
Kelly tried to be a chameleon with that fake southern accent.

I always find these threads amusing. Almost every SEC school has donors with fvck you money...some more than most of course.
When these key donors have enough of whatever the situation is, they act and they move on.
I have no doubt that the key money players at LSU had conversations last night and will continue today. They will either decide to table to a later date, end of season, etc...or they move on.

Kelly is a mixed bag at this point. You can’t criticize him for the last three games and not give him credit for landing a Heisman QB and winning the SEC west in year one.
But no LSU fan should be confident in him. Regardless of the talent loss from last year’s offense, the team has regressed over the last three weeks.
Best case scenario is that it’s just a lack of talent (which still ultimately falls on him). That can get fixed with the portal and the upcoming recruiting classes.
But the first quarter suspensions and the fights he’s having with players on the sidelines suggests that there’s a cultural issues, which is simply unforgivable since Kelly was the “safe, solid” hire to stabilize things after O.
I’ve been down on Kelly since last year—LSU was a title contender if the defense was just below average. If I wanted elite talent wasted by an overpaid coach, I’ll take Les Miles over Kelly.

I think it sucked when we (fans) realized Jimbo had a guaranteed buyout. LSU fans know the pain now.
It sucks for any fanbase. ADs responsible should be shown the door before the coach.
Fans don’t have a say and it sucks for fans,

Unfortunately for LSU fans, BK is looking like Jimbo 2.0

Solid post. Thanks.
Do you think the big money donors, who drive hiring/firing are starting to stir?

Kelly inherited a worse situation than Elko in his first year, but somehow managed to win the West and play in the SEC Championship game.
He produced a Heisman winner in his second season. There were signs things were shaky, but Year 3 has been a disaster.
Kevin Sumlin was looking really good after his first season also. Kelly is our Sumlin.
