They’ll be the next Arkansas

A good program that was consistently competing for conference titles in a conference in the Great Plains/Desert, bordered Texas, wore red, and has an intense, proud fan base throughout the entire state

Moved to the SEC, and, things weren’t the same. OU and Arkansas both moved to the SEC right after they were experiencing slight decline (Arkansas wasn’t as good after 1989 even in the SWC, same with OU and Venables in the Big12).

There will be growing pains. OU will still be a player in the SEC, they’ll have some great seasons, but they won’t be a top team in the SEC like they were in the Big8/Big12, same as Arkansas coming from the SWC

It’s going to be interesting to see if Sooners can recruit as well as they did in the Big 12. They we’re conference championships there just about every year and sold that to recruits. Now they are just another team in the SEC that is horn’s rival.

Probably accurate.

OU had it made in the Big 12. Think they made a massive mistake joining the SEC.

It’s a meat grinder and once you get down it’s really tough to climb back.

I think Texas being good as they move into the SEC is really going to benefit them, especially with OU being so down. The timing was perfect for them

A&M vs Texas will be like Armageddon. Elko leading A&M to success immediately this year is crucial, you guys are fortunate he’s so good

Also, I wish the new schedule has Missouri, A&M, Texas, OU, and Arkansas play each other every year

OU has some pretty big boosters and they are used to better.
I really think the coach is their biggest problem.

Arkansas? Our former Southwest Conference foe too?

Create a West division and you got it.

We are so naive. Even Oklahoma knows what the real problem is - and it ain't conference membership.

But just curious, has anyone seen a sooner poster in awhile?

Both are better than Missery.

How was Arkansas or OU facing slight decline?

Arkansas won the SWC in 88 and 89. Two years later they moved to the SEC.

Arkansas won the SEC W in 1995 after entering the SEC in 1992. I’m sure OU will take playing for the conference championship in a couple years.

NIL is the biggest problem for OU and coach.

OU was always paying with the big boys when it was illegal. Now that it’s legal they are just like every other team

So far they are recruiting about the same as the last 5 years. I doubt that changes. There are a lot of DFW kids that want to go there.

OU's problem has been defense since Stoops left. Venebles will be fine if he can get a capable QB and O line. He has been improving the defense while the offense has regressed since Riley left them high and dry.

But what if they don’t win at the same rate? It’s one thing to go to OU to play in the Big 12 championship and playoffs annually. But if that’s gone, where will they fall? Will they sink, stay steady or rise? Who knows, but it will be interesting to watch.
