Early start, low energy with the team, uneven game and a nail biting finish against a supposedly overmatched opponent.

We didn’t have 3 true freshman playing in the secondary last season.

Probably but this year has better play calling on offense. Still, the way the two games played out were very similar. I hate 11AM games.

Yesterday sucked but, while frustrating, at least I felt like we controlled the game for the most part - even with a bunch of horrid errors and 2 absolutely inexcusable defensive drives.

The Vandy game it just felt like we got outplayed and outcoached for 40 minutes.

Saying that about back to back games against Vandy and South Carolina certainly doesn't make me feel good, but that's about the only silver lining I can come up with. We were up 14-0 and had them 4th and 11 with like 2 minutes left in the half and a chance to go down and put it away. And then we had 8 minutes from hell from there to their TD to start the 2nd half and all of a sudden we were down 19-14.

I understand all of that. Just saying that yesterday felt a great deal like the Arkansas game from last year. Early kick, lethargic energy and a game that we damn near lost to a team that should’ve never been in the game.

I've been far more disappointed in our linebackers than the freshman DBs. At least the DBs have the excuse of not having any experience.

Yea don't disagree. Also add in the take an early lead and then look up and all of a sudden it's a game again and the energy never recovers type of thing.

Lots of similarities.

Justin Jefferson has been a real bright spot.

100% - Outside of the bust yesterday which was a freshman who doesn't ever play they haven't really busted much. They've gotten beat some, but they don't seem to be confused all that often. Just freshmen figuring it out. Bak and Brown look like future stars. Their ability to look competent is why I really wish we'd bring more pressure, because they seem capable of holding up for short periods.

Campbell has been horrid and Lawson has had some really ugly missed tackles.

Campbell should be rushing the passer more. Jefferson is arguably the best of the inside linebackers right now.

Jefferson has done a really good job in his role. He's still not quite strong enough to meet guys like Sanders in the hole, but Campbell plays about 15 lbs smaller than his weight with his terrible habit of tackling guys up at their shoulders, so I'm not even sure there is a trade off there.

If Campbell just fricking stands there and waits on the ball carrier a half dozen times again next week I don't know what more he has to do to get benched.

It's just awful. The scheme, the lack of blitzing, the misses after penetration in the offensive backfield have all been bad, but Campbell's absolute and total fall from grace has been as big a problem as anything else. If he plays an even average game in Nashville we get 1-2 more stops and win that game by 2 TDs.

It's a damn killer.

Campbell is more of an edge rusher. When they made the move to get him rushing the passer yesterday he looked pretty good. Also saw where Jordan Renaud got some playing time early. He looks like a very promising prospect.

Renaud absolutely popped when he was on the field. Want to see a lot more of him.

Thought Bak played well when he came in as well.

And Lawson hasn't been much better. We have one ILB who doesn't want to tackle anyone and another who can't tackle anyone.

Where are Shane Lee and Markail Benton when we need them!

I’ve always thought that Jordan looked very good. He needs more playing time because he has really good speed to power ability. The way our pass rush has been lately we need some juice. He can provide that and looks big enough to hold up against the run. Woe-mack needs to get these players in better position to succeed. To say that they have underperformed relative to the talent on the roster is a major understatement.

Not a fan of this 4-2-5 experiment. Maybe it will convince me and maybe it's a a learning curve, but the D looks lost most of the time.
