One of the worst decisions ever in UK basketball?
Tubby Smith has Minnesota (lowly Minnesota) at 13-1 this year. Billy Gillispie has Kentucky (Storied program) at 11-4 with a loss to Virginia Military Institute.
Tubby Smith had Minnesota at 20-13 last year after they went 9-22 the previous year. Billy Gillispie had Kentucky at 18-13 last year after they went 21-11 the previous year.
Tubby Smith went 6-4 against hated rival Louisville. Billy Gillispie has started off 0-2 against hated rival Louisville.
UK fans have to have hands in their faces over this.

Hindsight is 20/20. It looked like a great hire at the time and Tubby was fading fast at UK.
And let's not forget the state of the program when each coach took over.

He got put out of the NCAA tourney in the 2nd round 3 out of the last 4 years. Rick Pitino left that roster loaded when he left. Tubby did not do the same for Gillespie.

quote:Look how fast Tubby has built a terrible Minnesota program when he took over. 9-22 in their previous season before he arrived.

or he takes another job. His longest job has been 3 years.

Gillispie turned UTEP and A&M around, no easy task - neither of which is what you would call a basketball hotbed or power.

He's not a shitty coach, he's just not great. I'm sure he can be moderately successful at a program with low expectations. Tubby obviously was not getting the job done at Kentucky and needed to go.

hard to be fired when you dont have a signed contract, BG still yet to sign the deal, him and the university work under some type of referendum document until all the wrinkles get ironed out ..

Personally, I think it's an outrage that Minnesota still doesn't have a logo for TD.com.

Can't wait for UK to visit Memorial Gym for the game against Vandy. I think Vandy hung a 40 point beat down on UK last year. I'm happy for Tubby, he is now able to coach in a place where he is respected. UK fans never gave Tubby any respect.
