How does a team beat Georgia one week and lose to Vandy the next?

I did not get the chance to watch the Georgia-Bama game. I am honestly flummoxed. I am not taunting the Tiders.
I am just trying to wrap my head around it. How does this happen?

This kind of thing is so common there is a term for it. The letdown game

Same as how a team gets blown out by NMSU one week and takes a playoff contender and SEC champ down to a miracle on 4th and 35.
Sometimes, shite just happens.
The response to the bad is what will be noteworthy one way or the other.

The lack of helmet communication regulation. This ain’t the NFL. Teams are going to struggle on the road this year.

I started to say Alabama was basically in a home game, but then I realized you were making excuses for Georgia.

The very definition of a poorly coached team.

It goes to show you just how important uga is for bama.

Bro, UGA didn’t lose to Vandy and UGA is ranked higher than Bama. Against Bama, UGA had four turnovers, an unforced safety and were subjected to multiple Prayer at Jordan-Hare type plays. Yet, UGA only lost by a possession with its last offensive play ending in Bama’s end zone. It was a regretful loss to an inferior opponent, but a mere blip. Losing to Vandy may be the impetus for setting back Bama’s program for a decade.

Great teams have lost trap games- especially after an emotional win the week before - for forever. It’s up to the coach to prepare and mold their mindset to avoid a letdown. Deboer failed and that’s and you get what you saw yesterday. Most Bama fans on this board are not happy about it.

They were looking ahead to South Carolina.

You lost to the team that lost to Vandy and all you have is excuses.

UGA has won two of the last three title and still has the coach who won them. I don’t really need excuses. UGA just had an off night where they turned the ball over an uncharacteristic amount of times leading to a one possession loss on the road to a worse team. It happens in conference play.

You mean the team that struggled with the powerhouse that is Kentucky?
Yea, no clue.

So you have rather lost to Alabama and won against Vandy, than win against Alabama and lose against Vandy?
I wouldn't.
Especially since it's not like Vandy is a terrible team this year and it's an obvious let down game.
We saw what both teams were capable of against good competition they've prepared for. No way in hell am I trading.
But you do you.

It can happen if all 3 teams are pedestrian.

Turnovers.
Beck threw 3 unforced INT, 1 lost fumble and a Safety throwing to the middle of nowhere from the endzone.
Heck, with just one of those things absent, we at least tie the game.
With no TO's we win by at least a TD.
Our run blocking was bad but our OL was giving Beck plenty of time to throw the ball; he just had the worst game of his career against Alabama of course.
