USC is a terrible place to try to win. Great fans, great stadium, poor product. and the Ole ball coach has done a decent job, imo

3 Coaches who had won NCs elsewhere couldn't get it done in South Carolina. Time for them to try a new approach, imo. Hire a great assistant and stick with him for 6+ years.
JMHO.
JMHO.

makes you wonder...they have everything in place, facilities, fan base, etc but they can never get over the hump.
you would think spurrier could get them over the hump but so far he has fallen flat.
i don't know the answer and i would think those in charge at USCe are in the same boat.

It depends on what they determine as success. If they think they can compete with the Fla, UGA, and Tenn teams, then they better pray they can find someone better than Spurrier. If a good year for them is making a bowl, I'd let Spurrier stay as long as he likes.

no.
At least they made it to a bowl game.
Thats above average for the history of their program, and exactly what Spurrier knew he was getting himself into and wanted - a low pressure situation where if he just won 7-8 games a year, got the team to any kind of a bowl game, won a bowl game once every 2-3 years, he'd easily still be the best coach there in a generation. Still would allow him to make lots of tee times. And thats about as good as Carolina is ever going to do with their geographically screwed location.

Not yet. But Spurrier needs to make major changes in his offense. For a guy who is supposed to be an offensive genius, it is inexplicable and unacceptable for USC's offense to have been as consistently anemic as it has been. Finishing 11th in the conference in offense, last in rushing, and leading the nation in interceptions in your 4th year does not cut it. Add in back to back poor finishes to close the season and a disproportionately large early exodus to the NFL [4 juniors from a 7-6 team declaring for the draft is madness], and you can see there are some problems with the program.
I do think Spurrier can still get it done. Despite the poor on the field performance, USC is still recruiting surprisingly well. And while it was a disappointing year, it was not a Tennessee/Auburn full meltdown. But I would only give him one year. And in that year, he needs to completely revamp his offense. The 2009 Gamecocks have to produce in a major way. Even if we only win 8 games, we need to substantially improve the offense and put some big points on the board. If not, SOS needs to step aside for a young up and coming coach.

You may be on to something. I watched him at FLa and now at SC, something's not the same (besides the talent level, I mean)
