She lived in town, and walked to the grocery store

If she couldn't carry it, she didn't buy it. If it was a big box of detergent, she walked an extra trip

She got rides to church, but if there was no ride to church, she walked

She lived to be 102

she grew up out in the country, picking every fruit and vegetable in the Northeast Arkansas Delta

I never asked her if she'd ever been bitten by a snake

becoming a townie was probably an adjustment

Me too. I feel like young people today don't want to talk to their grandparents and are missing out big time.

Me either. My FIL always said when he couldn't take care of himself, he was ready to go. He's now 88, has dementia and is in a nursing home wearing a diaper.
I told my wife to figure out how to kill me without getting caught before you do that to me.

Depends on how you live

All of my grandparents and great aunts and uncles were born before the First World War, one as far back as 1890. These were people who could recall the first time they saw an automobile. None of the women were ever comfortable driving a car — they could do it, but it was kind of a last resort for transport.

One of mine didn’t drive either. The story was she tried it when she was young and wrecked the car in the yard. Didn’t try it again. But no telling what kind of vehicle it was way back then.

My other grandma drove and let us kids drive with her in the car. But they lived in the country.

My great grandmother lived to be 96. She said the secret was eating a banana everyday and she walked about a mile back and forth to the post office almost every day until she was no longer able.

She smoked and chewed, but not in high amounts. She was born before both world wars and lived through the depression etc. So I guess she only ever formed a small habit, not sure.

I remember she used to make the biggest fuss over a penny. Like one time in KFC having a fit because they owed her a penny. And nobody could just give her a penny, it had to be them. Everyone was embarrassed etc, but that's how she was.

Now that I understand how much the dollar has been devalued and the countries wealth stolen over her lifetime, I get it. A penny was worth a lot more in her day. I find myself being the same way over a dollar that's no where near worth what it once was.

Same.

My theory (as per my discussions with Mr. Grits) is that they ate real food, most of which they grew or raised themselves, worked their asses off, and walked everywhere.

When you're younger, it doesn't matter how you feel or what the weather is like, the animals have to be tended to.

And when you're older, you can still make your way around a garden and walk to the store.

Now a lot of us just sit in front of screens, order GrubHub, and eat processed garbage.

True Story

Bigger issue was mental development. Nobody had money so you had better social skills and a better imagination

Let's male a list:

1. If I can't take them myself, put on a glove, give me a bunch of pills and claim I took them myself when the coroner shows up.

2. Ricin would also work

3. Find a cliff, put the car in drive, get out. Profit.

This sounds like a Southern movie plot

Your dad was Jewish

He owned the car

He hired the driver
