If I were the A&M AD, I would have named Petrino the head coach after canning Jimbo Fisher. He's still a very good proven offensive coach and you could have gotten for the same money you're paying Elko. The transition would have been much smoother than bringing in Collin Klein to run the K-State system under Elko's supervision.

Great food for thought.

Elkos defense is not the issue this year.

Kleins offense is the wild card and if he and Weigman can get on the same page.

Doesn't Klein utilize the ground-and-pound?

If so, that's a serious waste of Weigman's potential.

The K-State offense utilizes a heavy dose of QB power runs which helps to open up the passes. In the past, the formula Texas used to beat K-State was to eliminate the QB first as a runner. The games Texas lost generally showcased the QB running all over the Texas front 7.

Klein has said in interviews that he doesn't force a square peg into a round hole and he will of course call what his personnel does well.

I don't think it's all black and white. He's not lying about what he says, but his scheming will inevitably add some wrinkles that a pocker passer won't be comfortable 100% with. I heard Ag fans are calling for starting Reed or Henderson over Weigman because they fit the perceived Klein offense better, and I could understand that.

It will reasonably take all season for Klein to iron out all the wrinkles

The SEC is a different animal. You can’t exactly run all over the opposing teams front 7.

Our schedule will be insanely hard next season, so this is our best shot to get in the CFP while Weigman's at QB.

No bc at some point this season we’ll rid ourselves of Pittman and our OC will be the interim head coach.

So.. you don't want Klein as your interim head coach/OC?
