front page of Bamaonline is saying he is going to Clemson. is this not a downgrade of a move? Why would he want to make a lateral move? Is Nick Saban that much of a bitch to work with?

Saban is the man wherever he coaches as it pertains to 'defense'. Swinney is more of an offensive guy. If this is true,Clemson's defense will be Steele's. If he wants to be a head coach again, this isn't a bad move.

Saban is driven like few coaches. He is tough to work for. But,its no secret either when you go to work for him. No interviews, don't even go out for a lunch break--food is sent in.He is hard to work for,but he works even harder himself. But,there really is little free tim. Nonetheless, working for him is a "resume' enhancer."

Good move for him,but Alabama will be fine.

Steele is from Clemson area. I think it is a downgrade, but there has been a lot of talk that Steele has been overwhelmed with recruiting demands.

My personal opinion, I think that it is a mixture of him having more control at clemson and less of a burden on recruiting.

What's it like to be an awburn fan and completely consumed with Alabama? Did you try to go to bama and got told to frick off. There's nothing like a bitch scorned.

Steel's father died recently and his mother lives alone in South Carolina...also a good move.

Another thing: Steele works Saban's defense...he doesn't get credit for it. At Clemson he can make a name for himself.

I agree with 59 here. Probably a good move for him to get back into a head coaching position down the road and the defense will be all his. With Dabo being a Bama boy, if he's headed there, I hope they have success and good luck to him. I also think we'll be ok with his departure.

Not really worried about losing his coaching abilities, but he was named the national recruiter of the year 3 or 4 years ago.looks like he's only credited with recruiting 3 or 4 guys this year tho.

Just make Kirby Smart the DC. Seems like the easiest and best decision

Smart is already the DC. Steele was the Defensive Head Coach and ILB Coach.

I'm assuming Saban will hire an LB coach who can recruit.
