SWAC may be worst conference in decades (maybe ever).

Last two years and counting:

Arkansas vs Ark-Pine Bluff 70-0
Auburn vs Ala A&M 76-3
LSU vs Grambling (2023) 72-10

Who else you got?

For a while there, the SEC didn’t schedule the SWAC in the late 50s and 60s. Some of those teams were stacked with talent. FAMU won a bunch of championships and Miami played them mid 70s. FAMU won the game but it really was the demise of HBCU football. The good players integrated into the large state schools.

Hell, even UAB and USF beat SWAC teams convincingly last week.

McNease, ULL, ULM, Tennessee St, and MEAC school NC Central all got wins over SWAC teams last week.

2023
SMU over Prairie View A&M 69-0
D2 Delta State over MVSU 35-7
Texas Southern- 71-3 and 59-7 losses to Toledo and Rice
D2 Miles College over Alabama State

Several years ago a guy in Mississippi told me that the Mississippi HBCUs cumulatively had more players drafted than Ole Miss, State, and USM until around the mid 1980s.

I tried to do an excel graph to verify it, but I got distracted at work and had to do work.

I’m not sure by the mid 80s but probably up to 1980. My wife’s entire family played for hbcus and all of them played in the NFL. I’ve sat at a bunch of old timers events and amazed how many of those old guys played NFL back in the day.

Just looking at the draft histories of the different schools... I don't think it is true that the three HBCUs put out more draft choices than the three D1 Mississippi schools in the 1960s/1970s... but they appeared to be pretty close.

And there were certainly some all timers from the HBCU list. Guys like Lem Barney and Deacon Jones heading the list of the '60s guys. Walter Peyton in the '70s In the '50s there weren't near as many HBCU draftees and by the 1980s the D1 schools were integrated.

Shame on them.

No SEC team should be playing any horrible SWAC schools.

Why are you denying the SWAC schools a payday?

Although I agree, I don’t care to see tuneup games like this for OOC. ,

I was at Jerry Rice's last college game with Mississippi Valley St in 1984 at LA Tech. He was such an elite player compared to the rest of the players on the field, but Tech blew them out 66-19 in the 1-AA playoffs

Oof.

You're right. It was TSU, not MTSU, which is even worse.

Let them get money from the Sunbelt schools.

I would give some of the schools decent odds against the Ivy League.

Against the power conferences of the FCS... there is a reason they don't compete in the FCS playoffs. I'd give Harding University, a lower division school, good odds of beating UAPB as an example.

Never heard of the SWAC

Some bs conference Texas created out of small regional schools to feel like a big dick after they ran from irrelevance in the SIAA

There are two SWAC schools in Alabama, including one Alabama played in a mid-week game last season, Mr. Internet User bamabaseballsec.
