Offense:
Beck-Picking up where he left off. Goes through his progressions quickly and throws the ball with accuracy. If he stays healthy and gets enough pass attempts he should go to NY for the Heisman award. That said, I don't think he will get enough passes to win, but he is cool under pressure and I'm gad he is under center.

Branson Robinson- I think he will be fine. There were times it looked as if he would get the ball and he was looking at a team picture of the Clemson defense. It was a combination of a missed block and Clemson having a good defensive call on to stop the run. Clemson has an excellent DLine and they were selling out early to stop the run, and that made Robinson look worse than he was. Once the defense was loosened up with passes he ran better.

Frazier- Looked as good as advertised. Caught the ball well, was very shift and elusive and had plenty of speed. Looked like the next great RB for Georgia, It'll be fun watching him the next few years.

Humphrey's- Reminded me of McConkey. Fast, good hands and showed a little toughness driving for the goal line when he had the ball in his hands. He'll definitely give defenses something to watch out for.

Lovette- Really good. He seemed faster to me. Probably just an illusion, but he seemed to get better separation than last year.

Bell- Bell. Fast. Powerful. Really good weapon.

Offensive Line-There were times they blew Clemson's Defensive Line off the ball. Protection was good. Got off to a slow start, but i chalk that up to us running the ball a lot early in the game, and Clemson selling out to stop the run. Once they got going they dominated.

Defense
Bolden-Looked good in run support. Ordinary at other times. However, he is a true freshman. Once he gets a little more experience I think he will become another Malaki Starks. (That might be stretching it a bit, but maybe not) He was not afraid to stick his head in there on run plays and seemed to know where he needed to be on the field. He never seemed lost.

Jalon Walker-Grown man. Made key play after key play. He might turn out to be the alpha dog this year. Put him together with Mykel Williams and our defense is going to be nasty.

Everette- I saw some comments in the game thread criticizing him, so I went back and watched more plays zeroing in on him. There were several plays where passes went for good gains against him...but the were unusually great plays. One was a perfect pass thrown by Klubnik down the sideline. Everette couldn't have played it better than he did. It was just one of those perfect pass with a really good catch. Another was a one handed catch by their TE that was pretty spectacular. I think he's fine. Not perfect by any stretch, but better than some give him credit for.

Starks- What can you say? Solid in coverage, good in run support, and makes the occasional spectacular Int, that will make teams try to stay away from him.

The defense was just....wow. they tackle enmasse. They swarm the ball and punish the unlucky ball carrier. Clemson doesn't have the most dynamic offense, so we will know more when we get Alabama. The good news is all of our young players will have 3 games and an off week under their belt to get the jitters out and clean up some rough spots.

This looks like it could be a special team, if we can avoid a lot of injuries and/or bad breaks.

ETA
Edited to change Humphries to Everette. I had been thinking about London Humphries and that bled over to my comments for Daylen Everette.

Everette was fine imo. The two big catches against him were just great plays and throws. He had good coverage. Feel like even last year he had some unlucky results when he was targeted.

Beck was playing off schedule, buying time in the pocket and finishing with accuracy much better than he did in the past. That's was the biggest missing piece to his game.

Still want to see more of his deep throws just to guage his improvement, but the kid is impressive.

I think you’re underselling KJ. The kid was all over the field, didn’t blow any coverages, and showed sound tackling form. He has a motor, to say the least…an impressively instinctual defender. Oh, he’s 18 and last played official downs in high school.

You don’t get first game, important reps as a freshman on a (healthy) Kirby Smart defense without being absolutely elite. He’s going to be an incredibly special player, imo.

Speaking of the spectacular INT…anyone else notice the refs face behind the play in the slow-motion replay of the INT?

He had a chance at a perfect interception. Would have loved to see him get it.

Looks like KJ and Walker will be seeing the field a lot this season.

I forgot to mention Colby Young. He looks to be a threat in the red zone and that back shoulder catch he made for the TD was unbelievable. I played WR back in the day, and it can't be said enough how difficult it was for him to adjust and turn to catch the ball over his shoulder like he did.

It was a nice pitch and catch for sure. Was a beautiful play executed perfectly. I thought it may have been the best pass Beck threw all day.

Did any of you folks with more football knowledge than me feel like the slow start on O was more a feature than a bug?

I know we would like to have had a bit more production and maybe expected Branson to be a little more effective than he was, but it really just seemed to me that we were just trying to make the elite-yet-thin Clemson front 6 run and run and run side-to-side because our coaches knew they lack quality depth. I was really never concerned about it.

Football brain folks tell me if I am wrong.

Kirby said he thought they could run inside better than they did. Offensive line was getting whipped in that first quarter.

But it is encouraging to see that the offense adapted and was able to move the football despite having that taken away.

I am excited about the offense, and I think it will continue to gel as all these newcomers find their stride.

They weren't getting whipped Clemson was run blitzing, two different things.

At the half we ran them sideline to sideline enough that we broke them and could run where we wanted by the end.

Carson is that dude and he’s dialed in. He’s got many weapons to choose from. It’ll only get better as the season progresses.

They're strong, but slow. Don't they start a 300lb kid at DE? (BTW, Frazier is a speed guy, but he did an excellent job taking 4 yards profits running hard between the tackles).

I think Branson will be more effective after a couple of games vs lesser competition. It takes time to feel confident in your knee after that injury.

To a degree, I think you are correct.
I think it was the first game and they were trying to get the jitters out of the players by running safe plays at the beginning. As the game wore on they opened the playbook a bit more. But, in the beginning, Clemson's talented front seven stopped Robinson cold. My guess is they had a good game plan, and was playing to stop the run. They were successful.

In the second quarter and the second half, in particular, we began to break out more innovative plays in the passing game.

People look at the final score and assume Clemson is not good. Defensively they are good, but we wore them down until they broke.

That's just what it looked like to me.
