Texas/OU SEC Reality check 2024, The Beginning

So Texas and OU are in for the rude reality check of playing in the SEC this year. Big Giant stadiums full of hate for the opposition. Man eating defenses that cause visitors into the fetal position, Blah, Blah, Blah, etc., etc.
Intent of this thread is to discuss the season with input from the board on the beatdown that the newbies Texas and Oklahoma will endure at the hands of the established SEC teams. The incredible grind of the season, the need for developed depth, the oppression of opposing venues, a Line of Scrimmage league.
Bump this after every crushing Texas and OU defeat.
Edit: Going to be a while until first games.
09/21/2024 Tennesse @ Oklahoma
09/28/2024 Miss. St. @ Texas

I'll bump this first.
If Texas or OU win in their first year in SEC competition, they had easy SEC schedules. If they don't win, it was the "Grind of the SEC" that did them in.

It's "OU/Texas"
Best program gets top billing.

The stadium thing is true though....
UGA v Texas will be massive.

OU has an actual SEC test. Texas paid for an easy road.

I think both Texas and OU will fare pretty well in the SEC. I think the days of either program just simply running the table with the exception of playing eachother is over. Those fan basis will have to adjust to most weekends being a challenge. I believe that Texas has the early edge over OU based on just where the programs are at right now. I think OU will be much better off with Venables than Riley. Better all around coach. Texas’s schedule this season is much easier to navigate than OU’s.

Texas and OU are both powerful programs that are capable of top 5 finishes year in and year out.
There will be a new pecking order but you will have to field truly exceptional teams to challenge for top 3.
Time will tell, looking forward to seeing it play out. We all know this is a step up in competition.

Texas has a relatively easy schedule this year. Call it luck of the draw or whatever you will.
But yes, the talent is much better across the board, and your RB depth has just been thrown in the trash for the season. You will need to have a running game in this league.
There are some question marks on defense for your squad as well.

You two don’t know the grind you are going to be in. The 11 game season will be brutal by the 8th game. And it won’t get any easier. By the end of the season your team will be worn thin.
But don’t take my word for it. You will see.

Ou will feel it, but UTx got basically as sweet a deal as you can get this year. If they aren't playing for the SEC CCG then they should just focus on swimming and golf.

Blah blah blah. You are living in the old days. Kids nowadays are conditioned year round unlike older times. They will be fine. Its not wearing down that will hurt rather injuries. And more injuries happen in practice than games. Most teams have some depth as well.
And using your logic this also works both ways. Every SEC adds either OU or tx so thats extra wear on them. And without divisions there is no hiding like it used to be in one div.
Every team regardless of conference has injuries. There is no “wearing down” there is injuries or healthy.
OU will face 6 ranked SEC teams and this is more than any SEC team has ever faced in their history prior to this year (conf games only). We are gonna lose games and it has nothing to do with wearing down it has to do with quality of schedule. But its not typical either.
We just happened to get the short schedule straw because of our record the past 11 years. And tx got lucky because they sucked those same 11 years. One of the few times in life it pays to suck, but tx sucked and got the easy schedule.

I'm excited about the challenges ahead...to be the best you gotta compete with the best...the b12 teams didn't really hold up their end competition wise, so there is some validity to the easy road to the championship argument, but it's not quite as good of an argument as some on here make it to be. Oklahoma will be able to go toe to toe with the best in the conference after a few seasons once we are acclimated.

Well OU got a much tougher slate so they will struggle more.
It’s not so much that any one game is that much tougher, it’s the 11am @ Fayetteville and they are jacked to the gills the week after you had an emotional game against Florida, and the next week you’re away again at Bama.
It’s a grind, they’re are way fewer trips to Ames on the schedule or sequences where you play Kansas, Texas Tech, and West Virginia all in a row. You’ll find out even in years when Auburn is a 4 or 5 win team, going in to JHS and getting a win takes a lot out of you.

I am really looking forward to college football this year. Should be a lot more really good games. And with the expanded playoffs, less players opting out for bowl games that mean nothing.

If they don't fix the opt outs it might as well go back to a vote of who the press thinks is best.
