I am wondering if the UAA is going to change with the neutering of the NCAA

We have really operated with the fear of the NCAA for the past 35 years now, and imo it has always given the UAA a mandate for them to pretty much do as they please. It has also kept us from being as aggressive as other schools in our hiring practices. In other words, We wouldn't consider some coaches because of the appearance of impropriety like Kiffin or even Saban back in the day.
Will the new rules allow the UAA to be more aggressive in building a winning football team now? If not, why? I would think that allowing boosters to be a part of helping to recruit the best high school and college transfers would be something UF can now compete with the best of them.
Just the mindset of Florida was so apparent when the NCAA started investigating UF as opposed to investigating Tennessee. UF fell quickly in line and promised to cooperate while Tennessee told them to frick off and lawyered up and took them to court. That's a program that wants to win vs a program that is scared of their shadow.
Anyway I am curious what the thoughts are on this. Maybe I am off base.

I also think some of our biggest boosters are part of the problem now. I don't think some of them have the mindset of most of the bigger ones at other top SEC football schools.

I have always thought that this meant those said big boosters would not want a coach who would push the rules to get us in trouble. Is there another reason for us not to be more aggressive in our overall football (or athletics in general) approach?

I have heard some are against putting big money into NIL. Saying things like Foley said when our facilities got way behind - that we don't need to be in an arms race. We obviously spent on NIL and some recruits but seem to be gun shy when it comes to going after the very top portal players. Using Miami as an example as they needed to upgrade talent like us. They might be ranked below us a little in 247 portal rankings but they clearly got more top players and spent more there than UF did. They also seem to be hitting more with their recruits because they shelled out for quite a few guys in their 23 class that most of the top teams were bidding on. I am starting to think as the years go by UF is getting more rich boosters that aren't huge football guys like we used to have and the other top SEC teams have now.

So I guess there is a concern that we think we are the Harvard of the South and football is just a vehicle to get together once in a while, so winning is secondary.

My take is that he was giving a veiled slap to UGA and all their off field issues.
Can a program reach National Championship levels with out having a team of thugs and miscreants? Do we really want to return to 2008? Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the championships but the team behind it, short of Tebow was for the most part bad people. FSU had the same culture issue when it won it's last NC. It was malignant and a real cancer to the University. I want to win, yes, but at what cost?

I would rather support 8-4 to 10-2 Gator teams than have another team like Urban Meyer fielded while at UF. There will always be an asterisk beside
the success he had with the Gators. There is a right way to win, it is harder, but I believe it can be done.

Of course you want to win and sometimes better players cause more issues but lesser players can do stuff also. I think it was McElwain's tenure when we had the players putting guns to their girlfriends heads and crazy crap like that but no one remembers that hardly because we had started going downhill on the field.
I guarantee you most SEC fans could care less if Vandy has the fewest arrests. If our UAA/Biggest boosters dont want to compete they might as well let us become KY permanently in football I guess.

If you look at the successful teams in the present time, they all have issues, other than Saban's Bama teams. I don't know how he kept a lid on that for so long with the success they had.

Saban had a crap load of arrests though I think Bama police were more likely to let a player park a car on a DUI if they weren't also going well over 100 mph.

Napier gets this year to show if he knows what he is doing at all.Having said that if you can't have a winning season in your first 3 years at a football school like UF it 100% proves you don't know what you are doing.

This is a make-or-break year for Napier, unlike the NegaGators, I will support him and the team for as long as he is the head coach. I hope he turns it around. The schedule is brutal, but I see at least 8 wins as a possibility.

I do also. 7-5 would at least show some movement. Even 6-6 if Lagway had to take over and he showed promise might be enough to start turning the ship around.

I remember a Vanderbilt coach once said that it’s hard to beat Harvard on Monday and Bama on Saturday.
