Some ADs have indicated that “tough” financial decisions will have to be made. This is due to recent NCAA changes, and legal actions.

If forced, I’d say cut baseball and women’s basketball.

LSU has never managed to pull it together in swimming, so that immediately stands out. Women’s soccer would be next in line for least likely to win. We’ve only managed to be a consistent tournament team in women’s tennis so they wouldn’t be missed.

The rest of LSU’s programs have great tradition and would catch a lot of heat cutting

The challenge is title 9. Probably have to cut as many men as women sports

At most schools only football make real money or finish in the black. There are outlier in some Blueblood basketball programs and a few baseball programs as well. Some the the more successful women's basketball program make a little money you can probably add softball as well.

I wonder how, with all the revenue going to 3rd world sports, like baseball, just how much is left for NIL football? It was a problem for teams like Florida to be all in on minor sports before NIL. I would think it may be a huge reason Brian Kelly can't buy his 2 million dollar DT at LSU.

Right. Both swimming programs would go first.

Men’s tennis was top 10 for a long time and I believe we are top 10 all time in NCAA appearances, but LSU hasn't been a serious title contender in 20+ years. I would probably say the tennis programs would walk the plank afterwards.

How much are we cutting here?

What happens if they do away with scholarships for players that are getting paid? Do those people still count towards title 9?

Arkansas would cut football.

You'd trade your whole athletic department for Alabama's and you know it. Football is king, but we typically beat Arkansas' arse at just about anything.

Where is all the 2.8B dollar settlement going for the next 10 years? To mainly football and basketball players as the schools see fit. A distinction is being made between major and minor men's sports in compensation. Title IX isn't changing how much of this settlement women's sports will see. Many see this as the framework for revenue sharing going forth.

I can see scholarships going away as compensation for revenue sharing takes hold. I think the new student-employee is coming fast. It's not out of the realm to imagine scholarship limits being replaced by roster restrictions.

I could see schools carving out most deficit athletics to keep their money makers on top.

Didn't swimming make 25% of your 2021 Olympic gold medals for men's sports?

Nobody is cutting any women's sports unless Title IX goes away.

Unfortunately it's going to be men's non-revenue sports.

That’s different money though, I think. School and athletics pay for the sports. Collectives pay for the NIL. At least that’s how I perceive it.

NIL is mostly benefiting the elite players on the money-making teams and I don't see that changing. But the "collective" giveth as they see fit.

I'm not sure why LSU needs a beach volleyball team and the travel costs associated with that sport, it should be a club sport and they can have bake sales or bikini car washes to fund their travel

SEC should get in the lacosse game and would not mind seeing wrestling back as a sport, LSU axed a very competitive wrestling program back in the 80's

LSU had 10 medalists in 2020, and only one of them was in swimming

How many did Alabama have?

How many transfers could LSU afford this year?
