Lamkin starting rather than Prager or Cortez. Ballsy move.

I am not familiar with A&M baseball enough to get why this is ballsy

Can you explain for a casual baseball fan?

With little exception, Prager and Cortez have generally been pitching lights out.

Lamkin has not.

That’s definitely not the way I would attack game 1

Assuming Cortez is a starter now with Sdao out, Lamkin is our #3 starter. Most teams start with their best pitcher, both because it's important to start with a win, and because you get him back on the mound sooner. By not starting Prager in game one, we get him in game two. And game two is super important, because if you lose it you add a game to your game total. (It's a lot easier to come out of the losers bracket after losing game one than it is to come out of the losers bracket after losing game two.)

I’m going to assume that Cortez will be waiting in the pen from the start, and Lamkin will have a very short leash.

But with Sdao out, someone has to step up. This will either be a stroke of brilliance on Schloss’ part, or frustrating af.

We shall see.

Over the last two months of the season T. Jones and Lamkin were throwing beach balls in their outings… With Sdao going down we truly have no good options for for a second and third starter. As you noted, we will have to give’em a chance then go bullpen by committee.

All this is true, which is why pitching down game one might be a gamble that makes sense. UF is the most beatable team we’ll play, and losing game 2 would be a loss we couldn’t come back from. We just don’t have enough reliable pitching. We MUST win game 2 to make the finals.

Doesn't matter. A&M will be assimilated by Gator baseball tonight.

A&M will be lucky to win one game in Omaha.
