I don't see how LSU law school can ever be ranked high because of the Napoleonic law they practice. Does that make sense?

It has been a tough few years for Ole Miss Law School. The Scruggs saga has not helped.
Ole Miss is perceived as small school that caters to a homegrown closed bar. Ole Miss has got to recruit more out-of-state students. The school has a reputation for being almost exclusively Mississippi residents. As long as that's the case, it will negatively impact the school's national standing. (You've got to have more alumni working in places like NYC and London, doing a good job, impressing judges and colleagues with the quality of their legal education to really improve your standing.)
Contrast Ole Miss admissions with Alabama. Because Alabama receives so many applications from well qualified non-residents, it must reserve 100 seats for Alabama residents. Otherwise, Alabama residents would probably fill only about 70 seats out of 180-190 admissions.

LSU law teaches both the LA system (mixture of Spanish and French Law) and the common law system (the other 49 states).

Why is LSU so far behind when it comes to the law school? If nobody else in the country uses Napoleonic law or whatever it's called, then why do they teach it?

Because here in LA we still practice civil law instead of common law which the rest of the country uses

Because it's not very good. Of course, LSU law students will say otherwise, but it might be 3rd in Louisiana.

Regardless of the data submitted by these schools for ranking purposes, re-ranking by the Peer and Lawyer/Judge Assessment scores often reveals the real world reputation and strength of a school.

Ole Miss Law is a joke.
I rec'd an unsolicited letter awarding me a full scholarship, followed by a phone call from the admissions dept.! Ridiculous.

Accounting for only Peer and Lawyer/Judge Assessment Scores, the rankings are as follows:
Vanderbilt (7.9; #15)
...
Florida (6.5; #46)
UGA (6.4; #32)
...
Bama (6.2; #32)
...
Tenn. (5.8; #52)
- The re-ranking above is how most would rank the schools in question.
- Florida's LLM programs (certainly Tax) make it a solid second behind Vanderbilt. That said, UGA is a great option.
- There is no question Bama continues to improve.

- I would say it's considered #2 in LA...
...but today's applicants should really consider the cost/benefit analysis of attending.
- LSU Law is more affordable, has a larger alumni network and shares a similar (if not problematic) reputation out-of-state (due to the civil law ciriculum).

are you kidding me? who would be #2? loyola? i don;t think so. they are a 3rd tier law school and are closer to southern than lsu from what i hear.
