This was the 17th incident in which an individual associated with Georgia football has been jailed by police or cited for traffic-related incidents since a fatal accident involving alcohol and speeding took the lives of a football player Devin Willock and recruiting analyst Chadler LeCroy in January of 2023.

I don’t care that some freshman wr got arrested for driving the wrong way on a one way street.

You think other fanbases worry themselves with some dummy that doesnt know his rights and lefts?
No.

It's the rivalry of Georgia versus the legal system, and that's a rivalry that is quite entertaining.

And you call this honest?

Let's be honest you are okay with Georgia players getting arrested as long as Kirby keeps winning.

Honestly, all arrests are not the same.

UGA gets lots of players over the years driving with a suspended license... which means they had unpaid parking tickets. We had a player arrested for "emerging from an alley" once. We had another player arrested for assaulting a trash can.

UGA fans (particularly those who went to UGA) aren't upset with this kind of arrest at all. We know from experience that these are just examples of the Clarke-County police department getting money from students. This is something any UGA student has to deal with.

Then there are the "typical college student" arrests. These we don't like, but we understand them. Underage drinking. Pot arrests. Speeding or reckless driving. The occasional public urination infraction. They aren't something just anyone gets like the first group, but they are somewhat understandable for a college student to get dinged for.

Going the wrong way on a one-way street fits somewhere between the two. Yeah, it shouldn't happen, but if you're new on campus you can miss a sign. Pay more attention next time.

UGA's players who get arrested normally fall into the two categories above. 5% or less are actually serious crimes like assault, theft, weapons charges, DUI or drug charges beyond pot or alcohol.

So no, we aren't really put out at all by a player driving the wrong way on a one way street.

I am not hating on a kid that drove the wrong the way. It's the 17th incident that is making a mockery of your defense.

Is it a privilege to play for Georgia or not?

This is typical for Athens.

"traffic related incidents" are how the Clarke County and Union County police departments fund their activities. Both arrests and ticketed offenses. Speeding and parking tickets, driving without a license arrests (which means you didn't pay your speeding or parking tickets), reckless driving charges, DUI check points on Thursday nights (the prime night for Athens music shows)... that is life as a student in Athens.

When heading up 316 from Atlanta, as soon as you hit the Union County line (just before Clarke County), you slow your arse down if you're smart because you know the cops are trying to make money. I'm nearing 50 years old and I've gotten a total of 7 driving related or parking tickets in my life. 6 of them were in Athens in my 4 years as a student there.

The only incident this off-season that raised any concern for me was Trevor Ettiene's DUI. Driving while drunk is serious, unlike turning the wrong way on a 1-way street. Drunk driving is what killed Chandler Lecroy and Devon Willock (drunk driving by Lecroy, not a UGA football player). The rest of it is typical Clarke County police work to get funding for their department.

It's been 2 years. 8 driving related offenses a year in Athens for the football team is typical. It's typical for any randomly selected 100 students living in Athens. I myself was pulled over or ticketed 7 times in my 4 years in Athens (though a couple were Union County, just outside Clarke County). I've had 1 ticket in my life for anything anywhere else and I'm pushing 50.

There's a reason why UGA has arrests all the time over the years for "driving with a suspended license" while other colleges don't. Your license gets suspended in GA for unpaid speeding or parking tickets with very little notification that it's happened.

You're effectively (intentionally or not) trying to make a big deal out of the fact Athens PD, Union County PD and Clarke County PD all use traffic related offenses of students as a way to fund their work.
