Eh there are several other factors helping LSU that you left out. They are the hottest of the bunch winning 4/5 series to end the year (absolutely matters) and they have the best overall record of the group

Well, my response wasn’t a very comprehensive list of pros and cons for the 13-17 teams. But since we want to take a deep dive, we could compare how LSU did against the other 13-17 teams.

LSU lost every series they played against the other 13-17 teams. LSU lost their series against Florida, Vanderbilt, and Alabama. You didn’t play South Carolina. LSU’s hot streak to finish the year was largely fueled by playing Missouri, Auburn and Ole Miss; the three worst teams in the SEC. Three of the four series LSU won this season were against those three teams.

There is a little more context.

Florida has been terrible all year. Leave them out. Everyone else gets in.

The head to head makes little difference at this point it’s more about overall resume. Also you point out LSU getting hot against weaker competition at the end but that’s because they played a tougher schedule early than the other teams. Pretty much every other team at 13-17 has been cratering besides LSU. I don’t necessarily agree with it but the Baseball and Basketball tournament committees put a lot of emphasis on playoff well at the end of the season. LSU might not get it but you are way more dismissive than you should be.

That is why initially I simply posted the RPI of each team. That is a universally accepted measure of overall resume. But you didn’t like that so you brought up individual series. I agree with you, LSU has the worst resume of any of the 13-17 teams.

Florida finished the year by playing the #3, #5, and #6 teams in the country. They went 4-5 and won their last series. On the road. That isn’t cratering. And the committee may pay attention to how a team is playing. But they put a lot more weight on strength of schedule.

If LSU wins on Tuesday I’ll feel pretty good about getting in.

Blowing the game 1 against Alabama is really coming back to bite LSU in the arse big time
