What he said was "We're not in the market of buying players."

What everyone else is pointing out is that he most definitely IS in the market of buying players. He just thought the price was too high. That's very different than saying you're not in the market at all.

It's kind of a false virtue signaling where you don't have the virtue you are signaling you have at all.

His issue isn't with buying players. It's with the price they charged.

If you read the entire quote, he's equating "buying players" to simply throwing money at players to come to your school. Think Texas A&M in 2022 with their high school class or Ole Miss this year through the portal.

That's different from offering a competitive NIL package like schools such as Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State. Those schools may not offer the most, but players still go there because they see the big picture.

Versus going to Miami or somewhere because you got paid.
