There is no way that Jimbo can even be on the list at all. He won a national championship at FSU. In six seasons at TAM he only had one losing season. He finished 2nd in the west twice. He had a winning record in bowl games. He finished 4th in the nation one season. His overall record was 45-25. His 64.2% winning percentage is better than TAM’s all time 58% winning percentage.

Was he overpaid? Yes. Did he fail to meet TAM’s expectations? Yes. Was he a fraud? No.

Will Aggie fans wish he were still their coach in a season or two? Very likely.

I get this in one way, but any time you pay someone $76 million dollars to not coach your team anymore, insinuates that you were sold a false bill of goods and thus, he was a fraud.

I know the rant loves to get hung up on the buyout, it’s triple the 2nd place buyout or whatever, but a number is just a number. He was fired because we didn’t think he would get us to where we needed to be, and it was easier to cut bait quicker. As fan support dies out/disinterest in the program, it might have costed more to keep him in the long run.

All that to say, the guy you quoted is spot on. Someone with a Natty, multiple BCS bowl wins, numerous 10+ win seasons isn’t a fraud. He had a sustained level of success…. Just not at our school and we didn’t see it in the future, so we let him go. Jimbo being #1 is just recency bias and very shortsighted. And I say all this not a fan of Jimbo and am glad he’s gone from our program.
