Couldn't we just compromise and put it at a 45° angle?

No one puts it how you describe because that would be retarded

I agree.

Most people are probably just going to think you are an a-hole preventing them from loading up more of their stuff.
As I have never once in my life been charged for something someone behind me had, or vice versa.
Might as well claim the guy who straddles the line in a parking lot is right while we are at it. Nah, just an a-hole.

It’s just a visual for the cashier to keep folks’ stuff separated and not ring up something by mistake. It ain’t that complicated. Nobody thinks it’s a “privacy fence”.

This has to be the most inane thing ever to have such a strong opinion about.

I don’t think you’re looking at this issue from the proper perspective.
It’s not a matter of whether or not someone uses the “divider” right or wrong. It’s the fundamental issue of whether to use the “divider” at all in the 1st place.
Culturally, we’ve become such a divisive society in general as it is.
Do we need to continue to foster and encourage that divisiveness in the very place where we commonly procure one of our most basic needs of human sustenance?
Dividers: “right way vs wrong way”?
Or?
“Dividers vs No Dividers”
At this juncture in time, I think we need practice behaviors that unite us rather than to continue to perpetuate those behaviors that divide us.
Even down to the most mundane & seemingly insignificant events of our daily lives…like the grocery store checkout line.
I say… put your shite on the belt…let it ride…see where the journey of non-divisiveness takes you, and resist the impulse to place that cheap-arse piece of plastic as contrived “barrier” between you and your fellow consumer.
Who knows?
Maybe your fellow shopper in front of you overlooked and forgot to get the bananas on their respective shopping list?
Are you really gonna miss a bundle or two of bananas in your persevering quest to be a force of UNITY among humanity ?

That's what the head lice treatment and adult diapers are for.

COVID is over, don't need to do that "social distancing" bullshite.

Was at the grocery store earlier and the checkout lady asked me if I wanted my Tea bagged.
