They're selected before the season and every team gets some on TV.

Umpire literally forcing fastballs right down the middle. 2-0 count prior to bases juiced was easily a strike, but ran it 3-0 instead.

The guy’s just awful and totally changing the game

It’s the same umpire for both teams you know

The ball to Laviolette on the 0-2 was a def strike

I do know. I also know enough to know that an umpire that is calling balls on pitches that are actually strikes doesn’t impact every team the same way.

For instance, that umpire would give an advantage to a team that is more patient at the plate over a team that tends to be more aggressive swingers. It would also give an advantage to a team with more power pitchers vs a team that relies on location and mixing it up.

If you know anything about these 2 teams, you’d know that favors ATM on both of those.

Idk got our best starting pitcher out of whack early on with the inconsistency.

Arguing balls and strikes in the bigD game thread is usually Terrific Tales’ job.

College plate umps have the consistency of Angel Hernandez. There are a few that are good but they are not the norm.

I think it’s safe to say the umpire clearly impacted Prager’s outing today for A&M.

Both teams dealing with adversity.

Play ball.

Adjusting to the circumstances is what good teams and great coaching do

It’s a battle between two good teams and even at 9-6 there is plenty of game left

I would give the ump 3 stars but he ain’t swinging the bat for kudos to the Ags to not panic down 5-0 on the road against a ranked team

Monty with a HR followed by Appel with a HR.

9-5 Ags.

you think Ivy League pitchers all were very happy when they learned Appell was transferring?

He also forced our best pitcher out as well. No telling what the score would be with a good umpire.

Honestly, I was against robot balls/strikes for several years but after Max Fried got chased in the 1st inning of his 1st game this season due to a 98mph inning ending strikeout right down the middle getting called a ball, I’m ready for it. The umps have gotten worse in all levels of baseball and it’s time to let strikes be strikes and balls be balls.

I don’t want to interrupt the Hawg/Tiger on Aggie violence thats happening here, but as a Bama alum it’s a really satisfying lunchtime read.

pretty telling that while bama was winning, they were doing the least amount of shite talking

I get what you're saying, but I am pretty sure Ivy doesn't allow 5th year seniors. Schott & Appel maxed out in the Ivy.

You think umps have actually gotten worse or just our ability to know they are wrong has gotten better?

They've actually gotten way better.

Both. Pitchers throw faster now, so it’s a harder job. I also think there are less “talented” people choosing umpiring. It used to be a side job for some of the most productive members of society, but life is so busy right now that those people are focused on their professions rather than refereeing/umpiring.

Btw we understand your struggle today, it’s what the rest of the SEC dealt with football refs favoring bama in the last 15 years

Those games were over at kickoff

I have mixed emotions. Sometimes the umps really piss me off. But human element has always been part of the game.
