Pre-nil he had big advantages

He had just signed the #1/#2 class in the country and a stacked roster that according to all the websites was the most talented in the nation.

Exactly how was NIL something Saban couldn’t navigate?

No, as he himself made very clear, he just didn’t like what the game had become and decided to call it a career in his 70s leaving while he was still competing at an ultra elite level (SEC champ, CFP OT loss, etc).

He couldn't pay every single player every single season like they're now demanding

Pre-nil he only paid them during the recruiting process.

He lost control of his players

Being close to Coach Saban’s age, the body doesn’t work like a 55 year old. Basically, you get tired easier and your ability to focus starts to slip. Saban looked tired all last season to me. Was very passive and not like his old self imho. Yes, you may be correct why he retired but no doubt Coach could have handled any situation, nil, portal whatever if he had wanted too.

He owes no one an explanation. I hope he has a happy and healthy and long life.
