Because you can't start talking about your beliefs without someone in the media wanting to cause a stir. There is no way they would let their hero also be beloved by the evil conservatives.

I can't wait until there are men playing women's sports in the SEC, and you know it is coming, just like the girl kicker at Vanderbilt, the media will be right there to promote it.
