It's somewhat amazing that Notre Dame hasn't won a major bowl game in 30 years, that streak long precedes Brian Kelly and has continued in his absence.

I think Notre Dame is often overrated by the media so they end up in postseason matchups vs much better teams and they don't have the skill position guys to matchup with those teams.

Brian Kelly got Alabama in the national championship game, Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl, Clemson in the 2018 CFP, and Alabama again in 2020.

Freeman had a good chance to break the streak in 2021 vs Oklahoma State but Notre Dame choked the game away.

Prior to BK, they had LSU in the Sugar Bowl, Ohio State in the Fiesta, Oregon State in the Fiesta, Florida State in the Orange, and Fiesta vs Colorado.

Most of those games weren't within one score and many were beatdowns.

Their last major bowl win was the Cotton Bowl vs A&M at the conclusion of the 1993 season, they actually beat A&M in the Cotton Bowl the year prior also.

I remember in 2012 how, despite being the undefeated team and #1, Notre Dame went into the NC title game as an underdog. No one expected them to win (except Lee Corso apparently) and sure enough, they got destroyed. They were down 28-0 at the half never got closer than that.

Then all of those wins got vacated anyway, so their official record that year 0-0 (I don't think I've ever seen a LOSS vacated, but whatever).

So two undefeated teams before the post-season in college football - Ohio State and Notre Dame - one was ineligible for cheating, the other had to vacate their wins for cheating.

If they had been held ineligible, Alabama would have played Florida (who finished the BCS polls at #3) in the national title game. Then BK could play the "only if" game.
