quote:

No. 6 Alabama Crimson Tide (9th in the Way-Too-Early Top 25).
Same story here. Recent history and recruiting say that Alabama's ceiling is still going to be pretty Alabama-ish, but returning production and that whole "Replacing the greatest college football coach of all time" thing could hold the Tide back.

quote:

No. 13 Texas A&M Aggies (25th in the Way-Too-Early Top 25).
It's hard to blame Schlabach or anyone else for refusing to fully buy in on Texas A&M. The Aggies are, after all, 20-17 over the last three seasons, and they are getting started with a new head coach in Mike Elko. But they improved quite a bit last season, jumping from 39th to 16th in SP+ despite quarterback injuries, and only an 0-4 record in one-score finishes prevented them from improving their record beyond 7-6. Their returning production numbers are strong (they lead the SEC in that category, actually), and Elko worked solid first-year magic at Duke in 2022. They'll have a shot at something impressive -- especially if quarterback Conner Weigman can stay healthy.

quote:

No. 40 Kentucky Wildcats (23rd in the Way-Too-Early Top 25).
The Wildcats have won more than seven games just once in the last four seasons, and they rank in the triple digits in returning production.... Basically, to view the Wildcats as a top-25 team, you have to believe that Mark Stoops' major changes -- both in the coaching staff and via the transfer portal (with players like Georgia quarterback Brock Vandagriff, North Texas receiver Ja'More Maclin and Georgia linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson) -- create a major turnaround.

If you're unfamiliar with SP+ rankings, it's a measure of efficiency in college football that's adjusted for tempo and opponents.

A&M finishing 13th in the first season that 12 teams make the playoffs would be quite Aggie-ish.

I notice no Washington. That’s quite a fall fromn playing for a national title to dropping out of the Top 25.

Anyone know where they rank?

Thought we'd take a second to discuss some of the lesser sports around here but, per usual, some of you softball-only bitches get your panties in a wad when someone tries.

We can get back to discussing 12 of 13 SEC teams in the tournament now.

Auburn’s schedule this season ranked in order of opponents rating:

@ Georgia 34.5
@ Alabama 26.6
@ Missouri 21.8
Texas A&M 19.0
Oklahoma 18.9
<<<< AUBURN 8.8 >>>>
@ Kentucky 5.6
Arkansas 0.0
Vanderbilt -11.3

Toughest OOC game is Cal at home. Looks like 8-4 but it’s never good when your three toughest games are all on the road.

2021 Preseason SP+ Rank : #82 (#4 MWC)
2021 Final SP+ Rank & Result : #33 (#1 MWC) (10-3, #3 MWC)

Washington
2022 Preseason SP+ Rank : #57 (#7 P12)
2022 Final SP+ Rank : #15 (#3 P12) (11-2, #8 AP, #3 P12)

2023 Preseason SP+ Rank : #17 (#4 P12)
2023 Final SP+ Rank & Result : #13 (#2 P12) (14-1, #2 AP, #1 P12)

Looks like they made a pretty consistent habit of outperforming their preseason SP+ rank nationally and inside their league. An average increase of 20 spots over 4 years (+5, +49, +42, +4).

DeBore was running the program into the ground with his poor recruiting. He got out just in time.

A strong 10-2 incoming with 10 upper-tier meh wins.

The good news is they'll only be used to prop up Ohio State's schedule since they don't play Michigan next year.

Neither, that kind of stuff has nothing to do with these rankings.
